Bob Cook Wins Re-Election As Lake County GOP Chairman (UPDATED)

My early report from the Lake County Republican Convention (which just wrapped up a little bit ago) is that current Chairman Bob Cook has won re-election over his opponent, Moraine Township GOP Chairman Lou Atsaves, by an unofficial vote total of 24,619 to 6,733. I understand that officially, though, Lou threw his votes over to Bob for a unanimous decision.

I think the Lake County Republicans were very fortunate to have two great candidates to chose from, and as far as I have heard, the contest was very honorable and professional, so I have no doubt that the Lake County GOP is going to emerge from the election stronger than ever, and ready to take on the Dems.

In other news... The Daily Herald reports that Congressman Bob Dold had a great fundraising quarter, taking in almost $600,000 (of which almost $400,000 was just in March), which brings him up to about $1.6 million in the bank -- a seven-fold cash advantage over Dem nominee Brad Schneider, who had to compete in an expensive Dem primary.

UPDATED 4/19/12 11:00 am: The Daily Herald reports here. On the Dem side, Chairman Terry Link retains his position, big shock. Once again, the Lake County Dems get the leadership they deserve.

Larry, Dold raised more than $600,000 for the quarter, the $400,000 is for the latest reporting period. Dold raised the second most of all the Republican freshman.

Lake County GOP has a great thing going, Mr. Cook and Mr. Astaves are both great leaders dedicated to the Party. Compare that to the COok County disaster, and we should count ourselves very lucky indeed.

Um, isn't the quarter and the latest reporting period the same thing? The FEC report says $390K. What am I missing...?

No, the quarter is Jan through March (four quarters of three months each in a year). The $390,000 figure represents 3/1 through 3/31( go check the report again). I think the reporting period was split this quarter because of the primary election. When you add the amount raised from 1/1 to 2/29 to the $390,000, the total is $600,000 for the quarter.

Ah, yes, now I see. Thanks; I've fixed that in the post. That's even better news for Bob than I thought, then... although we all expect that it will really be DCCC that is funding this race anyway for Schneider.

TA, you do know that part of the 10th is in Cook (affectionaly known as Crook)County. And you do have followers on our side of the line.
Unfortunately Cook Co. Commissioner Liz Gorman and her band of mischief makers got their man elected as the new Cook Co. Republican Chairman, thanks to the previous chairman's firing of Bill Cadigan as head of the New Trier organization with its votes (he couldn't vote since he was no longer the chairman). The Committeeman from Palatine Township who threw in with Gorman and her ilk (with some incentives the rumour mill has said)was elected. Sad day, once again, for Cook Co. Republicans. So sorry that Wheeling Township's hard working Committeeman, Ruth O'Connell, didn't even throw her hat in the ring - but then after what they did to her last time around I can understand her position.

Cadigan and the NTRO are going to become an independent organization with the support of other north suburban Crook townships who don't want anything to do with Gorman.

I think that Aaron Del Mar the new Cook Co Township head should be given a chance. He has done some good work bringing younger people into the GOP, has good relations with elected officials, and may have grown up a little since the old battles in Palatine. I just hope that he works on repairing any damage done by his predecessor to seek and foster unification.

Vote at the convention was announced as Cook 24,619, Atsaves 7,889.

Anon 12:54. I hate to disagree with you but when Del Mar threw in with the Gorman crowd last year because Ruth O'Connell wouldn't give him anything "special" if he supported her I knew he was in it only for himself - obviously his support of the Gorman crowd and the firing of Cadigan gave him a clear path to the chairmanship. There are still several factions in Palatine Township so he has down nothing to bring those groups together.

Remember too how the Gorman crowd tried to destroy Dan Patlak this primary so they could get in one of their own, a democrat running as a Republican.

No thanks Mr. Del Mar, you have an awful lot of fence mending to do to get this conceived in the womb Republican to have any respect for you.

If Del Mar wants to mend fences why won't he put Cadigan back in his position? Cadigan received unanimous support to become NTRO Chairman.

I don't want to pop anyone's bubble but we basically know how this game will be played for the next 7.5 months. Dold will outraise schneider, schneider will call Dold a radical right wing republican (even though he wrote checks to our side for 10 years), dold will ignore schneider, in the fall the dccc will spend $2.1 million to call dold a radical right wing republican, infamous local democrats will endorse schneider (elaine nekritz you go girl!), gop superpacs or the nrcc will spend money to help dold and in the end dold will probably win by 1.001 votes because schneider is a neophyte, the economy sucks, democrat voters are depressed and democrats were just too stupid and cocky to really gerrymander the snot out of this district. The moment the election ends democrats will blame the economy/mark kirk/superpacs and vow to reclaim the district in 2014. Oh and King Louis Astaves the Ellen Slayer will reign supreme over the 10th district's most misreble left wing nut cat owner.

What's going on with the cook county gop and ntro is really really sad. The NTRO used to be one of the top organizations in the country producing some of the party's top talent and now this. What garbage.

TA, you outdid yourself for last nite's LCRF dinner. Even those few protesters with professionally made signs couldn't dim the energy created by WI Gov Scott Walker. Too bad we can't import him to clean up our state!
