Lake County Election Upsets / Open Thread

I have to get back to my day job before the firm looks for a new environmental lawyer. For now, please let us know what your take on the local elections is.

Check out the Daily Herald website for the best local overview. Obviously a few notable elections are the defeat of incumbent mayors in Waukegan, Round Lake and Libertyville. The Build Route 53 referendum passed with an overwhelming 3:1 ratio, which may put that debate to rest, finally.

Here in Mettawa, we have a tie for mayor, although there are still late-arriving absentee ballots to be counted. If it remains a tie, who knows what happens next. Probably a recount, or maybe a coin flip, or - this is Mettawa after all - we'll saddle up the horses and have a race.

Great job, Mayor Sabonjian!
Hey Big "Dick" Hyde - don't let the door hit you in the gluteus maxiumus on your way OUT THE DOOR!

And another thing... I would LOVE to have seen the look on Link's face when the election results came in! News flash Terry - your reign of terror is coming to an end!

How about Garrett getting spanked and not in a good way. She put her reputation on the line to try to get favors for a run for congress and got humiliated. Sorry Sen. Garrett your elevator has stopped and you must get off now.

The Queen of Steets and San aka Senator Susan Garrett loses support of Shields Township voters on her ticket despite her efforts including:

1. getting Yvonne Senter-Evans thrown off the ballot and conducting a "whisper campaign" suggesting fraud on the petitions (NO That was your buddy Terry Link with the hundreds of names including dead people, forged signatures, signatures in alpha order....)
2. automated phone calls by SOS Jesse White into North Chicago
3. automated phone calls by the Queen of Streets and Sans into Lake Forest and Lake Bluff
4. letter to North Chicago residents suggesting they will lose their freebies if they elect Yvonne and the Independents
5. putting Congressman Kirk's photo on her team's website without his authority and for the purpose of misleading voters
6. sending out a mailer with her supervisor candidate's mug with Congressman Kirk, again attempting to mislead voters
7. going door to door in North Chicago and putting up signs at homes of Yvonne supporters

In the end her supervisor candidate won her election and lost her integrity in the process and one trustee Alan Adams won - because of his own name recognition and distancing himself from the rest of the "gang".

Congratulations to the Shields Township voters that sent Garrett a harsh message - we don't trust you, we never did, we never will....

Good government starts with good people - the Queen of Streets and Sanitation and now Plantation Politics Protege is going to have a tough time running for the 10th Congressional District with these tactics....

How will Sabonjian's replacement, on the county board, be chosen? Who will his replacement be?

Congrats Larry Falbe on making the Mettawa Village Board!

To answer your question Anon 11:19: the chair must appoint someone from the same party to Sabonjian's seat; however, the problem is that Sabonjian ran for County Board as a Dem but left the party and ran for Mayor as an Independent.

This could get interesting...
