Senator Susan Garrett and Other Dems Line Up to Succeed Mark Kirk in IL-10

As Congressman Mark Kirk moves closer to making an announcement soon about his future plans (run again in IL-10, run for Senate, run for Governor), the Democratic field is getting ready to pounce on an open seat in an Obama/Kerry district. Kirk told NBC-5's City Desk that he would make a decision after the indictment of former Governor Blagojevich, which has now happened. This is just a gut feeling on my part, but I'm thinking that, while all options are still on the table for Kirk, he may be thinking more seriously about the Governor's race that we might have guessed earlier. We'll just have to wait and see.

Meanwhile, a sea of spineless jellyfish Democrats are starting to line up to declare their intention to run for Kirk's open Congressional seat (if that occurs), including self-styled ethics watchdog State Senator Susan Garrett and two-time loser Dan Seals. Maybe it's just me, but if I were contemplating a run for Congress, and I wanted to make some headlines and jump out in front of what may be a crowded Dem primary field, I would announce NOW, and say I'm running regardless of who the GOP candidate turns out to be. Of course, that would take some guts, and it's clear that the Dem field is lacking in the intestinal virility department.

TA, it's gloomy outside, it's cold, and then I click on my favorite Blog and get this sick feeling in the pit of my stomach looking at Garrett and the Pup. One can only imagine what other assorted Democrats will want to jump into the fray if our Congressman decides to move on up. There would be virtually no contest if it's between Garrett and Seals. Reading her statement to the Pioneer Press released yesterday was a preview of how she'd frame her campaign. Heaven help us all. I'm sure that Footlik will want to try his luck again as well. We won't have long to wait since Mr. Kirk said he'd announce his plans by May 1.

I think Senator Garrett should first figure out how to fix the budget crisis in Illinois without soaking us taxpayers with further increased taxes. After all, she voted in favor of all of those budgets that created this mess.

I'm also still waiting for all those ethics reforms that the Democrats in Springfield promised us. You know, the real reform stuff, not the window dressing.

It's the middle of April and the legislature in Springfield still dithers.

Fix Springfield first Susan, then consider going to Washington. You were one of those who helped break it.

Right on. Lou. Susan Garrett is all talk, no action, but knows how to dupe the voters out here. I'm not so sure that she won't run against Kirk should he wisely decide to stay and continue representing this district. It seems that she's itching to make a move. We all know who she is, what she is and what she isn't, but just remember that she will have a strong Democrat army to get out and help her try to unseat Kirk. I don't put anything past her at all. She says she'd only run if he decides to vacate the seat. Time will tell.

If Rep. Kirk doesn't run for re-election, which Republicans will run? I read that State Rep. Coulson said that she might run. She agrees with him about many issues, and she's been a state legislator since 1997.
