Dan Seals No Longer "The Point" Person

It's official, as confirmed by one of TA's cub reporters, who called The Point offices (and tracking down the phone number took a little effort, mind you), at which the receptionist confirmed that Dan Seals is no longer employed at The Point. They have no forwarding information. Our intrepid reporter asked if they knew “what he was doing,” to which the operator replied, “I think working on his campaign.”

So, there you have it. I guess Seals is now back to being an 'independent business consultant.'

Is Seals a failed marketing "executive" that can't hold a job, or is this yet another brilliant campaign move that clearly indicates his suitability to take the reins from Mark Kirk and lead us into a better tomorrow? You be the judge.

ALSO- yesterday, I posted an update link to a post from "Bored Now," who apparently has taken up the mantle of Super Seals Supporter from our friend Ellen Beth. The Footlik folks are starting to respond in the comments to the Bored Now post, so you might want to see the hissing match going on over there. Check it out here. See more vicious comments going back and forth between Seals and Footlik supporters at same Bored Now treatise cross-posted at Prairie State Blue here. And, while you're at it, over here is one of Bored Now's earlier anti-Footlik rants ("Fraidy Cat Footlik"). Great fun!

So let me get this straight -- Seals has been unemployed for 24 months now, got a job with an Internet startup and then lost it.

...and he wants to be my Congressman having worked for one employer that asked him to leave two years ago...

Jay Footlik for Congress!

Team America said...

Now, now, Herb. We don't know if Seals left or was asked to leave.

Anonymous said...

Let's remember that no one knows what Footlik does, either. Or really, what he has been doing since 1998.

Footlik has not provided even basic details on the nature of his work beyond the fact that it is related to a "secure middle east peace" and that it somehow involves lobbying.

I can't wait to watch and listen to the Seals/Footlik debate. Jay Footlik is very adept at public speaking and isn't afraid of engaging anyone on any issue. I did check out those sites, TA and those folks are really having at each other, big time. I'm sure Mr. Footlik is going to ask Dan Seals what he's been doing the past couple of years. I do know that Jay Footlik has been on the Speaker's Circuit for both the Jewish National Fund and the Jewish Federations around the country. He knows one issue, but I'm not sure he knows anything about the 10th CD. Dan Seals surely knows nothing about this district so on that score they're even. Still very odd that Jay Footlik never mentions Dan Seals in his TV spots. Do you think he thinks he's won the Primary? This is fun, isn't it!

Dan Seals does not live in this district.

Anonymous said...

What has Jay got that Mark doesn't? He's a Washington lobbyist running in an election after one dominated by ethics scandals with a state democratic party that really should list its leaders as Rep D-Federal/State Penitentiary.

Also footlik was misreble in that video online, the poor soul had to READ his speech which was the same tried and failed bush talking points every democratic loser has been spouting up here for the past 8 years.

Unimpressive.

Dan Seals lives in Wilmette. Boo!

Mark Kirk lives in Alexandria, VA and has owned his main residence in the Beltway since before he was elected. Yay!

Anonymous said...

I saw Mark Kirk walking through his neighborhood at Fort Sheridan last week when he was in town for the Thanksgiving break. I see him often on the weekends and Congressional breaks.

Anonymous said...

Anon 6:46 p.m Congressman Kirk must maintain a home in DC so he can be in his office in the Longworth Building working on behalf of his constituents. If you watch CSpan you might hear him making floor speeches and doing what elected representatives do each day: vote on issues. On week-ends he's here in the district with a jam-packed schedule. He has a home at Fort Sheridan. One week-end each month he's on duty in the Pentagon. Anything else you need to know?

Anonymous said...

Seals cannot keep steady employment. There is something wrong with this candidate.

Anonymous said...

Oh SURE, Kirk lives in Alexandria VA because he HAS to for his job. That's why he was living in DC before he got elected; he was clairvoyant.

But ya know what: if Kirk loses this election, what odds would you give me that he'd move to the North Shore? He won't, guys. He's Beltway all the way. Has a nice future in lobbying ahead of him so he can make some money.

Those instances when Kirk comes back to the North Shore must all be "jam-packed" with fundraisers. Because he hardly ever appears before his constituents, and in those cases they are Potemkin Village GOP staging jobs.

We have no way of knowing because he does not publish his schedule. I would point to that fact there is hardly ever any mention on GOP or Dem IL-10 blogs of Kirk appearances, and on the few occasions that they have happened they get banner treatment just because they are so rare.

Anon 7:00 a.m. Give it a break. You don't like Mr. Kirk. That's obvious. But you also just don't like to deal with facts. Mr. Kirk was living in DC and working for the International Relations Committee of the US Congress when he moved back here to run for Congress. We all know that he had been John Porter's Chief of Staff, we all know that he was working on the staff of then Congressman Ben Gilman who headed the IR. When he moved back here to run for this seat he bought a place at Ft. Sheridan. Period, end of the story.
Why do you think you should be entitled to seeing his work schedule? And to say something as moronic as he's never out in public other than way out in the district or only at fundraisers is just plain stupid and false again. He meets with constitutents who have requested meetings in his office, he is out at civic events, he is out at Senior Centers all over the district and he does do Town Hall meetings as close by as Winnetka and Libertyville. I've been to many in the past that have been held in almost every town in this district. That you have chosen not to attend over the past 7 years is your problem, but don't say that he's invisible. In the first 4 years in office he was known as king of the town hall meetings. If you and your cohorts from that "other blog" want proof it's available. You are entitled to not like this man. That's the beauty of America. Mark Kirk will win a 5th term in Congress because he's earned it, he deserves it, we need him to continue his leadership and his commitment to this district.

Kirk's victory this time will finish Dan Seals as a candidate for anything.

Then he might have to find a steady job -- for the first time in his surprisingly unimpressive professional life.

The real question here folks, for both of left-wing Dem candidates is what have they done in the past 10 years to make the 10th District a better place to live?

Have they served on any school boards?

Have they ran for or been involved with local/municipal government entities that help communities with day-to-day issues?

Have they ever served on even a PTO board in the 10th District?

Have they volunteered for local, 10th-District based charities?

I've lived in the 10th District for almost 10 years. I know what Kirk has done and continues to do to help make the District a better place.

What have Danboy and Footlick done for the 10th District? (Specific, 10th District-based examples are encouraged.) No need to start a new blog on this question TA, I have a feeling the list is gonna be pretty short...

Great post, almost potus. When Mr. Kirk was Porter's Chief of Staff he worked on every issue involving this district. And let's remember that Mr. Kirk IS a 10th district resident his entire life, went to school here, graduated from New Trier, was a Scout here. Dan and Jay have never lived here and that's a fact. So yes, the list of what they've done, here or, for that matter, anywhere, will be mighty short indeed.

Anon 9.33 am,

I just LOVE how Kirkians on this site so blithely throw around statements like "you don't like to deal with facts," when their will to believe gets in the way of the facts.

Take the statement that "When he moved back here to run for this seat he bought a place at Ft. Sheridan. Period, end of the story."

Actually, this is wrong--foolishly so.

Unless Kirk was lying on his Personal Financial Disclosure Statements--which I invite you to peruse at the link below--prior to being elected the only property he owned was 1031 Paper Mill Road in Washington, DC. He later moved to Alexandria.

He has never owned property in Illinois while being in office. He probably has *never* owned a residence in Illinois.

Mr. Kirk is a renter at Fort Sheridan. I wonder if he even bothers to get any mail or papers delivered there.

I'm waiting for you to stand corrected

Anonymous said...

Seals owns no property in the 10th dsitrict. Seals pays no taxes in the 10th district. Seals did not grow up or go to school in the 10th. Seals did not vote for himself because he does not live in the 10th.

Kirk grew up in the 10th. Kirk served John Porter and the 10th. Kirk served his country in uniform - Dan skipped that test.

And Kirk owns a home in the 10th. Bad staff work.

Anonymous said...

Kirk does NOT own a home in 10th.

Anonymous said...

To the Anons who say that Congressman and Mrs. Kirk do not own property and PAY REAL ESTATE TAXES...you are dead wrong. Just check the records and you will see that the Ft. Sheridan property is not rented, never was. That property is owned by them, they pay taxes, it's published in the Pioneer Press for the world to see. Either you guys can't read or you just like to perpetuate some kind of ignorance regarding the truth about Congressman Kirk. Call the Assessor for the County. His name is Pete Koukos and he will tell you that the property has always been owned by Mr. Kirk. You guys carry hatred and lies to a whole new level. You are entitled to support your candidate. Do so, but you don't help your side by these kinds of sleezy and untruthful attacks.

Anonymous said...

AActually, I do stand corrected. I just learned that the Congressmens' Personal Financial Discosures exclude the primary residence. Sorry!

Please go back to bashing people for living in Wilmette now.

Anonymous said...

TA:

Readers will note that Dan Seals has been posting bad info on this site -- e.g. that Congressman Kirk "does not own a house" in the district.

Anyone who actually lives in the district (i.e. NOT Dan Seals) knows that the Highland Park News publishes tax records showing the Congressman's home in Fort Sheridan.

So, when you see Dan saying other things about our Congressman, know that those items are likely misleading or flat out wrong too.

Thank you "Anon" (i.e. Dan) for showing how poorly staffed your Seals campaign is.

Anonymous said...

Anon..apology accepted. They've owned that townhome for several years and have paid taxes and assessments just like everyone else living at Ft. Sheridan. And nobody is bashing anyone living in Wilmette. What an odd comment. I would guess that you are talking about Seals who lives in the 9th district part of Wilmette. Nobody is bashing Wilmette or those who live there. Once again, get over it. Your candidate lives in the 9th district and that's a proven fact. It's not bashing, it's just stating a truth.

The discussion about Mark's presence in the district ends here.

1. A congressman works in Washington 5 days a week, sometimes more. You won't see him at Walker brothers on a wednesday night unless it's a recess. It's a great trick to complain he's never around because of course, he's at his job 612 miles away 5 days a week and when he comes home on the weekend when normal people are not working, he's got all sorts of events and he can't have a town hall meeting each weekend. He has a staff, they exist too.

2. If Mark published his schedule, which no politician does, you'd see meetings that begin with a 7 am breakfeast and end with 10pm votes on the interior appropriations bill. There's a reason congressional marriages end in divorces with children deranged. These guys work awfully hard.

3. Mark has a residence in the district. He doesn't have to by law and Dan certainly doesn't. The real issue with Dan and Jay which is legit and you learn if you spend any time in a congressional office is that a congressman's main job is to represent local concerns in d.c. You are one of 435 votes, and unless you are leadership or a committee chairman your big thing is helping with Waukegan, getting money for the RTA or making sure the State Department doesn't give the palestinians money that ends up in terrorist hands.

4. Dan unemployed, let's see who Jay's been lobbying for.

5. Before the 10th dems ask voters for any more offices for their candidates they need to explain stroger and springfield, and Link and...

Anon 7:52 p.m Hooray for such an accurate account in the life of a Congressman. Those who carp and complain know nothing about what it takes to be an elected official. You have really helped clear the air, tell the malcontents who think that those we elect to the US Congress work here and make an occasional trip to DC. You've also helped dispel the notion that they work only on international issues. Thanks for stating what you'd hope people would know: Mr. Kirk works on issues for this district. His record of achievement is outstanding and there's proof of it all around the 10th district. Your comments are right on target.

TA

Going to be in Chicago next week, and wanted to know if you had time to talk about The Point.

I'm the director of communications there, and just wanted to answer any questions you might have.

Thanks!

Jeremy- I'd be happy to chat with you, although since Seals is no longer with The Point, I'm not so much interested in the website as the circumstances of Seals leaving. In the event you want to comment on that, e-mail me at yohannsebastian@hotmail.com and give me your phone number, and I'll give you a jingle.
