IL-10 Race Beginning to Pick Up Steam

Over the weekend, several campaign events for the race to succeed Congressman Mark Kirk showed that the truncated primary season is putting the pressure on candidates to get out there and get their message heard.

I'm sure there was a lot I did not hear about, but I was informed of at least one meet and greet for businessman Bob Dold yesterday, as well as a fundraiser at the home of former IL Lt. Governor Corinne Wood in honor of State Representative Beth Coulson.

Winnetka attorney Bill Cadigan was also busy touting yet another local endorsement, this one from former Navy Seal Mark Robbins. Robbins was gravely wounded in a fierce firefight with Iraqi insurgents but recovered, and now serves as a Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy. On Saturday, Cadigan hosted a 'salute to veterans' to honor veterans from all wars and conflicts from World War II to the present. Robbins spoke about the experience transitioning back to civilian life and how the Department of Defense, Veterans Administration and other federal agencies can improve the process.

You can view some video below:

Meanwhile, we told you a few days ago about the RJC 10th District Candidate forum that will be held next Sunday, Nov. 15th. I am working on potentially doing a live blog of the forum. Yesterday at the Coulson event, I also heard that there will be another candidate forum sponsored by the Moraine Township Republicans and perhaps others, but I need to track down the details on that.

You'll notice I didn't do anything on the big healthcare vote over the weekend, which was for several reasons. Primarily, it just left a bad taste in my mouth, and fact is, you can get your fill on that issue just about anywhere. But the real truth is that I think dissecting this bill and the current state of affairs is practically meaningless, as even Senator Dick Durbin doesn't think the bill will pass the Senate. As we were discussing last night, I think in large part, Nancy Pelosi's goal was to pass something, anything, just to get a bill moving and keep the march towards universal government-run healthcare alive. What eventually ends up in it will be anybody's guess.

Hamos is showing some cajones. she just filed an objection to knock the green party candidate off the ballot. Wonder if any of the GOPers will try to reduce the amount of sausages in the race.

George Ryan's lieutenant governor raising money for Blagoyevich's favorite republican(elizabeth coulson), what shock.

Great story today in politico that only 3 of 80 republican women to run for congress in the last several years have won races. Probably because they do what coulson has failed to do lately which is to renounce her campaign staff with ties to the democrat machine and her support for blago, acorn, the beuracrat unions, big labor and other anti-mark kirk special interests.

the cadigan video is nice, but 5 people will see it. t.v. commercials are nicer.

The only thing that health care vote did was provide Republicans with 30 additional members of congress from the south and plains starting 2011.

Easy,

There are already Hamos signs up in Waukegan.

Easy,

we heard the same thing from lauren beth gash that because mark was a right wing evangelical washington republican and lauren was a moderate highland park soccer mommy, she would win.

do you have the number for her washington congressional office so we can call and find out how she won the race?

my point is there is 1 woman in the GOP primary and at least 3 other guys. And whether you like her or not, in a 30 day campaign Coulson has to have the edge in every category except $$, but even there she is close. And if I was Dold or Green, i would have furiously reviewed the petitions of other sausages to see if you could get them removed.

How that relates to Kirk v Gash, I have no idea--you brought it up.

soccer mommies on the north shore always tell us that when there is a woman in a race that she will do well because she is not a man. That won't work because coulson is such an inferior candidate.

the problem from dold, green and cadigan is that they are running lackluster campaigns that don't seem to have much in the way of ideas or media. That video from cadigan was what? What was the message? That veterans have suffered that the first speaker had a more compelling story and history than him ?

The "sausages" as Easy says also have zero name recognition and are splitting the same voter base three ways in a extremely lack luster campaign. So, in this instance a female does have the advantage. Plus Coulson has a base that will follow her anywhere.

Anonymous said...

Of course coulson has a base, the beuracrat unions, the teachers unions, ACORN,the democrat machine, the cap n'trade folks, the blago team all love her for doing their bidding in springfield raising our taxes, increasing spending and regulation, bailing out the city of chicago when it pisses tax dollars down the drain.

She's probably to the left of lauren beth gash. So yes she has name recognition and a base, but its not our base. If she's the nominee it will be interesting to see if an independent real republican emerges to give the actual republicans in the district a la upstate new york, someone to vote for.

She wins her district with her voting record. Her district is in the 10th. You seem like an intelligent person. You can wish upon a star for a conservative to win that district it just ain't going to happen. If you hope for a third party conservative challenge in the fall ala NY-23 then you clearly are clueless as to what happened last week. I would hope that you would like to keep your hero Mark Kirks seat republican.

Anonymous said...

At most, 25% of Coulson's district is in the 10th.

Gold Fish said...

Thats 25% more name recognition than the rest of the group.

On this blog there was a discussion of people pulling petitions. Well, someone filed a challenge to Hebda's petitions. It does not suprise me that people are afraid of her. She will win that district. The question now is was it the Democrats or was it the Republicans? I beleive one of Sugrue's supporters was talking about how devisive it was. We shall see.

Team America said...

Gold Fish- I understand it was the Dem Township chairman for Buffalo Grove that challenged Hebda. None of the Republicans challenged each other. But Hebda had like 1700 signatures, so who knows where they are going with this. You may recall that Terry Link challenged Sugrue and Keith Gray last cycle on no other basis than they had the appointment meeting on the same day for each candiate but the meetings were each in a different place. I know it happened that way because I was at both meetings (and had to testify at the hearing, too), but that was purely a fishing expedition and they had no good-faith basis for bringing the objection. That may well be the case here too.

Gold Fish said...

TA:

It does not surprise me that it is the Democrats. I realize you have endorsed Sugrue but what does it say about your candidate that the Democrats filed a challenge against Hebda and not Sugrue (or Manian?). They clearly know who to be afraid of.

Coulson/ACORN/BLAGO/TAX Hike lovers,

1. Being a conservative doesn't make you stupid, in fact conservatives are wealthier and happier than liberals.

2.Coulson is not a moderate, voting with the democrat party on every issue and sucking the toes of blagoyevich makes you a democrat not a moderate.

3. I never said i wanted a pat robertson conservative, I said I wanted a republican with balls, whose going to fight for us, not some aging career politician whose been rolled on every issue.

on the 3 votes mark cast this weekend against socialized health care and against federal funding for abortion, I guarantee you coulson would have voted with the democrats on both issues.

If we are going to have a republican nominee we might as damn well have one that at least pretends to represent us.

At the Republican Jewish Coalition debate I look forward to hearing coulson defend her blagoyevich democrat record, telling us how many democrats she has running her campaign 5 at last count from published reports, whether she supports socialized medicene, why she supports tom cross who destroyed the prestige of the u of I by clouting 50 students into it ,why she slept with the unions in the springfield process (causing millions of our taxpayer dollars to go to golden parachutes for scum sucking beuracrats), why she is affiliated with acorn (mark kirk, a real moderate hates their guts), what redeeming qualities she saw in blago (the rest of his party did not), and why her record gives us anything to indicate she'll be anything other than a rubberstamp for nancy pelosi.

that's just a start. moderates at least pretend to be small gov, fiscal conservative, she's not even close.

TA, I have to disagree. I do not want to pay 8.5% more for health insurance PER YEAR and we already have the ability for the insurance companies (i.e. 'some bureaucrat' in GOP-speak) tell me who I can see, where, and when. Have you heard of networks, preferred providers, and cost-sharing? Have you heard of formularies that are not based on clinical effectiveness? If what the GOP alleges that the government will do is so wrong why haven't they sought to stop the insurance companies from doing so for decades?

Attempts at tort reform have not brought down healthcare costs.

Allowing pre-existing conditions does not expand coverage. Unless expanding coverage is morally wrong ):

I reviewed the House legislation and it does not lead us into communism and does not create undue difficulty for insurance companies. It is not perfect, however it is the best thing there is when it comes to opening debate, trying to meet constituent needs, and reminding the insurance companies that they cannot make gobs of money at the expense of the health and productivity of our nation.

Also, if mandatory insurance is wrong, then Illinois and most other states need to over-turn mandatory auto insurance public laws.

Finally, if the public option is wrong, why do McCain, Kirk, and their colleagues to the right swear by it for themselves and their families?

How about having the GOP come up with something as good or better? This does not mean patchwork legislation that -might- cover a few million uninsured.

Just a thought.

foklaes--

now you are just making stuff up. Coulson has voted against most of the dems budget and voted against the sham reform bill and the efforts to increase the income tax.

I find you posts amusing, but try to add a bit of accuracy or at least substantiate your claims.

Anonymous said...

easy,

you are clearly on her staff, perhaps an employee detailed from your local ward operation who spends their free time registering goldfish to vote. Go to her own website. Those democrat groups I cited don't endorse republicans who are true fiscal conservatives and small government hawks. They endorsed her because she was their go to gal.

Answer the question, how would she have voted last weekend on the 3 bills? Her record indicates she's a Republican in Name Only and would have been a comrade jan rather than a proud peter roskam.

FOKLAES-

I"m not on her staff. I do agree with you that she is liberal and if it was a 1-on-1 race she would probably lose.

But the point is, if you cannot point to the votes to back up your claims, then don't make the claims.

You said she votes with the Dems all the time.

I said you were off on that because she voted against dem budgets and voted against the income tax increases and grt and the sham democrat "ethics" bill.

Prove me wrong with facts, not assumptions.

Hey Crazy, I think you have no idea about the FEHB healthcare plan that covers federal employees. It's not free, it covers over 6 million federal workers and retirees, but it's not at all what you think it provides. When the Senate gets through going over the insanity proposed by sicko Pelosi with her plastic face and phony smile it won't resemble what was passed on Saturday night. And it should not pass. Take a look at what Congressman Kirk's plan offers before making assumptions about what it covers and what it denies. Unless and until we have physicians who actually practice medicine each day sit down with legislators who understand what we can and what we can't afford as a nation, nothing of substance will pass into law. When our physicians don't have to rely on defensive medicine the cost will decrease, so non-economic damage reform must be part of any real reform. Someone who is injured by a physician must be compensated. That's not what's under discussion. Tort Reform, that which addresses pain and suffering is what forces the doctor to over do it with tests and surgeries. Both sides need to sit down and try working for the benefit of all Americans and stop the damn grandstanding. True bi-partisanship is missing and that's key to real reform.

Easy,

you raise good points, as we've seen in the democrats 5 failed bids to take this seat from mark you can take any vote and spin it. She's in the superminority so nothing she does matters. In massachusettes republicans can vote for mickey mouse on every big issue because there are 5 of them on beacon hill and nothing matters. She can vote anyway she wants on any issue and it's all kosher.

the place to look is at these endorsements. Unions don't endorse republicans because they think elephants are cute snuggly animals, they endorse them over democrats because they determine the republican to be a vote they need and can count on. The endorsements from blago and other democrats are also indicative of what she's done.
we are also a party in transition that needs fresh leaders with energy and the heart of bulldog, not the ability to curl into a ball like her.

we have 8 years of her and tom cross down there in the minority putting up the resistance of the french army circa 1938. No thanks.

Where was Dick Green tonight at the Jewish group debate? Complete no show. I understand that a lot of those folks are Democrats, but by not showing up, Dick Green basically said that he doesn't care about he Jewish vote. In the 10th District, you cannot ignore the Jewish vote and be Congressman. That was the last straw for me on that guy.

Anonymous said...

Does Dick Green have issues with the Pro-Israel Community? Anybody know what this guy's problem is?

A guy who turns his back on 25% of a district must have a reason for his actions.

I was volunteering for Dold until I received this email.

Dear Volunteers & Bloggers,

This is our week to get our message out. We have to continue to tie Coulson up with ACORN/SEIU. If we can get this to stick we will win the primary. Hit all the blogs as fast and hard as you can. If you need any talking points, please send me a note.

Thanks,

Kelly

Hey, 7:15 AM...

I'm gonna take your spot on the Dold team! Any chance to spread the word about Coulson's union ties/leftist votes/liberal record/RINO tendencies is time well spent in my book!

Thanks for letting us all know that Dold is against Acorn/SEIU...Sounds like a candidate worth voting for!

Please send along any other messages about how Coulson has more in common with Jimmy Carter than Ronald Reagan!

It really helps clarify things....

Unknown said...

Anon 7:15 am -While I agree with a lot of the candidates that Republican's should not be tied with the SEIU I certainly did not send out any email asking bloggers to post on Coulson's ties to this group. The posts are coming from real voters and were not fabricated by the Dold campaign. I love that you even spelled my name wrong on my own supposed email.

Kelley,

I suggest you find a message for your candidate and something beyond the boring drivel on the front of his website. I've had yawns more exciting. Attacking team america readers, however noble to clean up your name is also unbecoming of a candidates campaign manager.

Team,

we must return to things that matter, the mobsters are attacking dear leader for flipflopping because he took the same position on abortion he's had since those fateful days of yore. I worry that the liberal chicago media will define dear congressman early and make the public relations hill eclectic eric Elk and rockin rich goldberg must climb, insurmountable.
