Democrats Encourage Bob Dold to Spend, Spend, Spend in New Congress

Our new Congressmen representing us in Lake County, Joe Walsh and Bob Dold, have a pretty clear picture of what we sent them to Congress to do: Reduce the size of government, reduce government spending, and reduce the deficit.

Local Democrats are worried, and they should be. Above all, local Dems (think Lauren Beth Gash and the 10th Dems), like their glorious leader Obama, think that the government is the only true economic engine that can bail us out of the recession, and the last thing to do in tough economic times is to slash the ability of government to spend, spend, spend. Never mind if we can't afford it, and our childrens' children will have to pay for it. That's all way down the road.

Bob Dold and the other Republicans in the incoming freshman class are having none of it. Make no mistake, they are going to be targeted by the Dems. But the good news is, no matter what the Dems can do, they have at least two years in which to transform government, which is what we want.

Over New Years, I was at a gathering in which one of my friends' father, a English gentleman who was very nice, but a true socialist, engaged me in conversation (since he'd been told I was active in politics) and seemed genuinely interested in my view on Obama, the economy, and government spending. He seemed to believe that America was a left-of-center nation and was a big Obama fan. I told him that the polls pretty clearly show that America is truly a right-of-center nation, and that the mantra of most Americans I know is that the less government, the better, and that as a rule, private citizen know who to spend their money better than the government can. There was more of this, and it was all very cordial, but eventually I retreated to the safety of the basement to supervise the kids so I didn't end up really ticking off my friend's dad at his party. He was pretty much an unrepentant European socialist who truly believed that government was needed to take care of everyone -- whether or not they could take care of themselves, given the chance, and whether or not they wanted it.

I expect such a world view from someone raised in Europe their whole life, but I expected a little more out of our local Democrats.

"less than prestigious jobs"

seals was an unpaid intern/coffee maker extrodinaire, gash's job involved the intellectually challenging and rigorous work of stuffing envelopes and conducting tours of the senate for simon, footlik's job was to organize the white house Hanukkah party (don't forget the rabbi in shaker heights!), and lee goodman's center for peace and conflict well-that speaks for itself.

then there's the matter of his parents company which to my knowledge unlike alexi's bank was never seized by the feds.

One thing to remember about the difference between Europe and the U.S. In Europe, the main protests are all against cutting spending and raising fees for gov't programs, like university fees, despite the fact that the govts are going bankrupt!! In the U.S., the main protests are in favor of cutting spending and reducing the deficit. I know that the Tea Party has some kooks in it, but when you compare them to the average European, they sure look like grown-ups.

Anon 7:34 - why, thank you. I need to lose a few pounds to look good on TV, but who knows what's in the future...

Government in this country is not anywhere near the size it is in Europe. With government programs actually provide real benefits like enough money to retire on and covering your healthcare costs. One does not have to depend on uncertain corporations or investments. And it shifts costs from companies makeing more competitive like Germany.

Watching Robert Dold vote for John Boehner as speaker just made me throw up in my mouth a little. I can't wait until he's gerrymandered in with Walsh.

Hope you all had a very happy new year. Municipals and GOP run-up to 2012 should give up plenty to banter about in the coming year.

Until Next Time,
A Concerned Colonial

Well, glad we could return the favor after having it happen to us so many times under Obama/Reid/Pelosi.

Happy New Year to you as well. As I said to Blue Wind the other day, hope you are a regular commentor, but you guys ought to go out and recruit some reinforcements. Maybe 2 or 3 more regulars and you will be able to hit back at FOKLAES tit for tat.

hah. team you're too nice. partially because I'm not a dold fan, partially because kirk is now in the senate where his next serious campaign will be for secretary of state or defense in 2017 (I'd go for the latter, bigger budget, nicer personal plane), and partially because the 10th dems are now a shell of their former selves there won't really be much for me to talk about here.

My one hope is that some of the great people like tim stratton, dan segrue and others that have worked hard will continue to stay in the arena-if this year showed anything it's that anyone at any time can win any office and good things tend to happen to good people like those. To me those are the candidates I am most excited to follow on this blog in the coming era.

Hopefully new faces like a. bees and some of our new tea party and converted dem friends start posting so that king louis astaves the ellen slayer won't be the only face around her.

happy new year

You are so amusing, Foklaes. Senator Kirk has found his place in record time in the Senate. He has settled in, is doing all that he can to be the guy we all know him to be.

As for Bob Dold. He's going to surprise CC and others who make such stupidly ignorant remarks about him. They lost. Our side won. It's that easy. They fabricated stories about Dold and his positions. They have been more unkind and more Ellen-like than is tolerable. Hey, we're still stuck with that guy in the White House. That's our albatross.

Just for fun I wandered over to that lonely place on the internet run by that rocking chair, cat loving bitter old poster known as Ellen. Seems she's talking only to herself and to Carl. Oh well.
