Local Election Day! (UPDATED)

LATE UPDATE 10:25 pm: In a pair of stunning upset victories, both Dan Sugrue and Jim Moran won their respective Green Oaks and Libertyville Village Trustee Races against entrenched incumbents!!!

CONGRATS TO JIM AND DAN! [end of update]

This may take you by surprise, but there IS an election today.

Best of luck to my friends who are running in various local races like Dan Sugrue for Green Oaks Village Board, Jim Moran for Libertyville Village Board, and many others. In the last few years, the local GOP has been playing a little bit of catch up with recruiting candidates and encouraging them to run in local races to build up a 'farm team' - something the Lake County Dems managed to get a bit of a jump of us on. Well, no more free ride, guys.

HEARD ON THE STREET:
There may be a lot of interesting action going on around the North Shore with respect to redistricting very soon... names like Garrett and Link are being thrown around as possibly ending up in the same district and being forced to shoot it out in a primary (that is, assuming both will want to run, which is not fer sher, especially in the case of Link).

I hope that Dr. Arie Friedman will run against Sen. Garrett. We haven't seen the new map, but her district will probably include all of Moraine Township. He lives in Highland Park, so they'll probably be in the same senate district. He has high name recognition, so he would get many volunteers and donors, espcially if he's the first Republican to announce a campaign, in her district.

10% turn-out in most of Lake County....that is deplorable!

TA If the democrats control the map process the only way Link and Garrett end up in the same district is if one is retiring. Redistricting is a game of addition not subtraction.

Anon 9:58, I generally would agree with you and I have scoffed myself at this rumor for weeks, but I've now heard it from several indepedent sources... so who knows?

Phil, Senator Garrett's current district includes all of Moraine Township now! :-)

Lou, I knew that Sen. Garrett's district inlcudes all of Moraine Township. That's why I made my prediction.

I have to say that Libertyville hit a home run with Jim Moran. Great guy with a good mind for what is best for the community. I am extremely happy for the Village of Libertyville with this selection.

TA, Rumors?

Come on! The Democrats kept promising transparency in the redistricting process. Are you trying to tell us that they won't keep their promises?
