Congressman Mark Kirk Fighting for us in Washington and the 10th District

I'm tired of beating up Dem 10th District challenger Dan Seals over things like Professor-gate, Seals' otherwise thin resume, his sketchy job history, his lack of visible means of support, his lack of accomplishments in the community, his lack of residency in the 10th District after what seems like years of running for this office [editor's note: actually, it HAS been years]... the list goes on and on.

So, I thought this morning we'd do a little wrap-up of what our own Congressman Mark Kirk has been up to lately.

In Washington, as always, Kirk is promoting important measures such as a moratorium on earmarks. He is also on the right side of the FISA bill, which is aimed at keeping our ability to monitor terrorist communications that pass through the United States due to quirks in how the Internet functions. (TA's Note: For some insane reason, Dems like Nancy Pelosi and (I believe) Dan Seals apparently think that foreign nationals that make phone calls from Country A to Country B, which pass through the U.S., deserve the protection of OUR Constitution to protect them against warrantless monitoring. Somehow, if the Founding Fathers could be asked if they intended the U.S. Constitution to protect people in foreign countries, and make it more difficult for our country to protect itself by hamstringing our intelligence-gathering activities, I doubt they take the Democratic view).

Closer to home, Kirk is active in the community, taking a lead in the fight against gang activity (Did you know Senator Dick Durbin, until recently, had no idea there was a gang problem in Lake County???), helping law enforcement officials to round up the 10 most wanted gang members in Lake County (THREE captured so far, in just a few weeks!!!). Kirk is also engaging our young people and helping them become engaged in civics, with his continuing 10th District Model Congress. Kirk continues to blast Illinois lawmakers for jeopardizing $4 billion (that's "billion" with a "B") in federal matching funds for transportation because of Illinois' inability to come up with enough money to qualify for the full amount.

I could go on, but y'all get the point. Mr. Seals, what have you done to benefit the people in the 10th District in the last three years, besides have the courtesy to run for Congress? What can you provide besides empty promises of 'change'? Based on the accomplishments of Mark Kirk, as noted above (and this is nowhere near a complete list), why would the voters of the 10th District be insane enough NOT to send Mark Kirk back to Washington?

Hello, Dan, are you listening? Hello, hello?

Thanks, TA, Congressman Kirk is a leader on so many important initiatives that it's hard to list them all. Yesterday I was priviledged to be a guest at Mr. Kirk's Second Model Congress held at Stevenson High School. Talk about leadership, this is amazing. No other member of Congress has taken this kind of leadership with our young kids to actually help them understand how our laws are made. This year's issues are Darfur and Stem Cell Research as a part of Healthcare Issues in general. To have high school kids from all over the district give up an entire week-end when they could be out and about, to actually craft "Bills" to become laws, hear from Ambassador Rich Williamson on the issue of Darfur, from Dr. Jay Alexander on Healthcare, is quite a coup.

We are more than fortunate in having Congressman Mark Kirk represent this district in DC. He has ideas, he has passion, he has a commitment to the future. Watching him work with tomorrow's future leaders was a rare privilege, indeed. I'm hoping that other members of Congress will emulate what Mr. Kirk has done for the past two years. Oh yes, Mr. Seals, and what do YOU do to help make a difference? Just curious.

I'm glad we're having an intelligent conversation about issues important to voters. But, be careful, biggus dickus might think you hate America. Good grief!

TA:

Dan Seals is busy right now having his campaign staff trained by Robert Creamer -- a two-time, federally convicted FELON.

I did not make this up -- its amazing on the Democrats website.

Ethics? Schmethics!

Anon: 6:53 - Jan and her felon man, Robert Creamer, are the backbones of the Seals organization AND that of the 10th Dems. Why she didn't go to jail with him is still a mystery since she signed those Tax Returns as his wife. Oh well, business as usual in Illinois politics. And I'm sure you heard that Jan is throwing her 'hat' in the ring to fill out Obama's IL Senate seat, should he become the president! Now if that thought doesn't give you a cramp, nothing will.

Sorry to put the damper on you, but what's going to win the election is not Mark's micro-initiatives-see 2006. On paper Mark and Dan are like Harvard and College of Lake County. Fundraising helps, a state party that goes negative and defines Dan helps-start with his lack of employment and ties to national anti-israel wackos, chicago law firms/lobbyists ect, the Democrats fighting dirty through the convention helps-they will trust the clintons, and McCain giving people a clear reason to vote for Republicans again-tax cuts and gay baiting won't work this year, would be a major major help.

I usually have great faith in our RNC, NRCC teams but a lot of the top operatives have cashed out this cycle and most of the good ideas have been tried by the administration, so that's what's really hard right now.

We cannot stop talking about convicted felom Creamer support to the Dan seals campaign.

Mark Kirk is one of the brightest members of Congress, that's why so many Dems and Republicans want to work with him. Just ask all the members of the Suburban Caucus and Dems such as Bean, Lipinski, and Rick Larsen.

Now if only Kirk would mention on his website and yard signs that he is a Republican...

Other than one line saying that he is the top GOP fundraiser (although raising lots of money seems to actually be a Democrat characteristic in this election cycle), I'm concerned that he is embarrassed to be a Republican.

You know, every once in a while, I have to out a Dem troll on this Blog. It's not that we don't welcome comments from Dems; in fact, we pride ourselves here in giving everyone a voice, engaging in open debtate, and letting people make up their own minds on the issues, instead of simply deleteing commments that we may not agree with.

BUT- don't pretend to be a 'concerned Republican' from the 10th District when you have an out-of-state IP address.

Anon 10:20, who claims s/he is concerned about Mark Kirk's level of commitment to the GOP is transparently trying to sow some sedition among Republicans. Sorry, nice try. All Republicans in the 10th District, even the nutzo right-wingers, love Mark Kirk because he is the real deal. Even they recognize that Mark Kirk is the closest thing they will ever get to representing their values in a district like the 10th, so no real 10th District republican is going to trash talk Kirk for not being 'Republican enough', and certainly not over using the elephant on his signs. I would even say there are a ton of candidates from both parties on the North Shore that do not have a party affiliation on their sign.

Kirk is successful in large part because he truly does represent a centrist, independent voice, which voters in the 10th District (many of whom are very smart and well-educated) appreciate, as nowadays, people don't like being too associated with any party, whether it's Dems or the GOP. They like to vote for candidates as individuals, regardless of labels. That's how Kirk won in a Kerry district, and he will win even if it an Obama district (shudder).

TA, you said it "seems like years of [Dan Seals] running for this office"

Seems like years? It has been. Years of doing nothing for the community other than being the Democrat's candidate.

Publia, you've nailed it correctly. All Dan Seals has done is RUN, and RUN and he's still RUNNING. One has to wonder what is he running from since he can't run towards anything. Yes, he's a stay at home dad and that is commendable. How would he handle that if he did find his way to DC one day? He offers nothing, has done nothing that one can quantify. Seems to me that this guy has a lot of explaining to do about the past 3 years. It should be interesting. In the meantime, Congressman Kirk continues to work on behalf of his constituents and our nation. It's not even a contest.

Dan Seals is unemployed and is advised by convicted felon Bob Creamer.

Anon 10:29 I think we finally have THE answer! Dan Seals is in training for Felony, 101! Do you suppose that jail-bird Bob Creamer, who had no difficulty fleecing innocent Seniors in the mid 90's and finally went to jail for it, is also a lecturer in the Continuing Ed Dept. at Northwestern and helped Seals get that gig? One thing is certain: this helps explain what Seals is doing with his time when he's not caring for the kids! Felony 101, now that's a creative approach to learning.

TA, so what if I'm out of state? I still have to pay Kirk's salary as much as you, so I'm interested. You get to rehire (or fire) him.

I am ashamed that Kirk is a Republican. His cockamamie housing bailout plan is an insult to every saver and responsible borrower in this country.

Where's the outrage over bailing out big banks, hedge funds, and--above all--NINJA borrowers (No Income, Job, or Assets) with our taxpayer dollars?

Because that's what his Home Loan Corp v.2.0 amounts to.
