Dan Seals "Sticker Shock" Caption Contest (UPDATED)

One of our commentors pointed out this priceless picture of Dan ('We're buying gas, not votes') Seals pumping gas yesterday in Lincolnshire that was associated with the Daily Herald online article on the "Gas for Votes" fiasco yesterday, but I missed it, as it was not in the print edition of the paper.

Sure seems prime material for a caption contest to me. Have at it.

UPDATE: The Pioneer Press has this story on Gas Gate. Seals says the event was not intended to influence peoples' votes, but to make them aware of how the Bush administration's energy policies are hurting consumers at the gas pump. "There's no voting buying here," Seals said. "I think he (Kirk) is trying to distract people from the real issue, which is that people are fed up with the prices they're paying at the pump."

Exercise-- read Seals' quote "There's no vote buying here" Then look up at the picture. Then read the quote again. Repeat until it sinks in. SEALS TRIED TO BUY VOTES. Knock, knock, Dan. That's the U.S. Attorney at the door.

Of course, I'm not asking for your vote, but would you like a generous supply of my campaign bumper stickers to remind you of who bought you gas today?

Dan Seals' New Job

Team America said...

LOL, Anon 12:03. Since Seals is so tight with that gas station owner, it's nice to know he will have something to fall back on after the election, assuming he could hold the job.

TA, do you really believe that Dan could hold onto that job? Wait. I have it. He will be the first to offer white shirt and tie service at the pump. How's that for classy gas in the 10th. The more I look at the damn photo of smiling Dan I want to hurl. Yuck.

Wasn't he late to his own event? Didn't I read that in one of the papers?

I got stuck in the Seals traffic jam. All of my family too.

We will NEVER vote for that guy.

Seals Gasoline Gate:

The money he used to help 10 people came from Chicago convicted Congressman Rostenkowski.

Seals turned his NU "class" into a fundraiser for felons.

Seals is a sleaze.

Gas-gate, sleeze ball, ethically challenged. And this guy has the gaul to run for anything other than the closest exit door! Does anyone have a broom handy? We need to sweep this slime ball out of the district, out of the State. We have our fill of his kind of political hacks. He is a total disgrace. Do you think we'll see Rosty's name on Dan's June FEC report? Now THAT will make for a fine national news story.

Here's a caption for you: "Hello Ms., isn't it amazing how far Bush and Congressional Republicans let things slip? Isn't it amazing how long they buddied up to the Saudis instead of trying to upset a status quo that left us begging for oil from dictators? How long they proposed empty solutions like destroying a pristine natural habitat for a day's worth of oil in Alaska? How long they delayed comprehensive and aggressive legislation to raise efficiency standards and incentivize the switch from high-consumption cars?"

Since I am not nearly as hell-bent on corrupting political discourse with ignorant, self-important trash, I'd be happy to admit that Congressional Democrats haven't exactly revolutionized things in Washington, and one man can neither change nor cause all of these problems. But Mark Kirk cut his teeth and made his career in Washington by falling in line with a national republican party that has a failing answer to the issue of gas prices: cut taxes, deregulate, and hope the market will work things out.

Lot of talk among Democratic consultants in DC that Seals will fire his campaign manager. May be a good move to build a stronger team against Kirk. Seals should run a better campaign than this.

Anonymous said...

Today's Trib is reporting that Seals was billed $2200.00 for traffic control. Seems like they're cutting him a damn good deal for all the trouble he caused on Thursday. Maybe he can ask Rosty to cut him another check to cover this fine.

He can hire new managers, consultants, hire anyone and everyone but he's a LOSER. Get it through your heads. Mark Kirk will be continuing to talk about the non-record of a guy who's done nothing, absolutely nothing for the past three years but run for office and let others pay his bills. This time Dan has lots of baggage to account for and nothing to show for his inability to get or hold a job for the past 36 months.

Congressman Kirk will be running on his record of achievements. And don't try your old line of his being a clone of Bush. That dog doesn't hunt and you know it. He will defend and define his votes, his votes on ISSUES that truly matter and that make him the moderate leader he is known to be in the US House. Oh yes, and 4 times out of 6 he voted to override the Bush veto. Can't wait for this campaign to get rocking and rolling. Dan Seals is more of a loser than just hiring the wrong campaign staff. Get over it.

Woman to Seals: Hey don't forget to wash the windows when you're done pumping my gas.

Woman to self: The guy seems to like seals. Is he in Greenpeace? And when did full-service gas make a comeback?

More talk on the Seals campaign imploding on the DC websites.

Hey Dan - you can win this if you get a better campaign team!!!!!!

TA:

Seals is getting POUNDED on both the Tribune Clout Street blog and the Lake County News Sun.

May need to get a real job soon - his campaign is looking like a disaster.

Anonymous said...

Anon 2:14, Seals CAN'T get a job! He doesn't like to work, remember. He hasn't worked in over 3 years, his old employer said thanks, no thanks, to his returning. When you can live off of campaign contributions of an unsuspecting public, why work? He's like all the other ethically challenged Dems in our State. Are you surprised? His mentor is Jan Schakowsky and her convicted felon husband, Bob Creamer. And his new mentor and best buddy is ANOTHER convicted felon, Dan Rostenkowski. Want to know more about Dan Seals? It's coming. Won't be long now.

Anonymous said...

Seals's record on ethics:

1. Sponsored by Lauren Beth Gash - who received the largest FEC fine of 2001.

2. Backed by Robert Creamer, convicted of mail fraud and income tax evasion.

3. Supported by Dan Rostenkowski, convicted of mail fraud and stealing taxpayer funds.

4. Endorsed by Terry Link, charged with six dead people signing his petitions (two corpses signed twice), and

5. Charged with buying votes in his Gasgate disaster, now fined $2,200 for the event by Lincolnshire police.

What a guy!

What's wrong with buying votes for gas?

Isn't this Chicago machine politics at its best?

Seals is part of the Blagojevich wing of the Democratic party

The 3 press releases from the IL GOP plus the house race hotline bit were a little over the top for a friday afternoon before a memorial day, also known as dump day for bad stories. If the state party wanted to be a big help to mark, and maybe do their job they could start tearing down obama like they should have done 4 years ago so maybe Mark won't have to fight a massive obama turnout.

CAPTION: (Seals thinking to himself) So this is what it is like for the little people to work for a living! Man my cheeks hurt from the smiling bit. Its too bad I don't live in the 10th district where everyones a millionaire, then I wouldn't have to do stuff like this."

Anonymous said...

Anon 3:04 I love your caption! Since The Pup lives in the 'slum' village on Wilmette, he can just imagine the good life up here. And yes, if he tried getting a job one of these days, perhaps he could move his lazy you know what into the 10th District. No, actually, that's a bad idea. Have him turn south, not north, and see if he can convince his mentor, Jan, to give him HER seat. My hunch is that even the voters in the 9th District wouldn't want this guy representing them. He just start by getting a JOB!

I have now seen CBS, NBC and Fox local TV all picking up on the Lincolnshire police fine against Dan Seals.

Thousands of dollars in fines and all this press against Seals is excessive.

Dan should fire whoever came up with this stunt.

If I'm Seals' campaign manager, I'm pretty nervous right now. This event was a total disaster - and the reverberations aren't done yet.

These aren't the tactics of a top tier candidate. These are the tactics of a fringe candidate desperate for any news coverage.

The great irony is that people probably wasted more gas stuck in traffic than what Seals purchased.

kellyann1293 said...

I was one of those people caught in traffic when The Pup pulled his little stunt. I work near Rte 22 and Rte 21.

Hey Dan, are you going to buy me the lunch I missed while stuck in your little traffic jam?

8th District Committeeman said...

Anon 3:04 here, was posting from my phone earlier. Had to comment on the Pups statement that this stunt was designed to show that people are fed up with prices at the pump. As thekids say, "Well DUUUHHHH!" Who isn't? In case Dan hasn't noticed, its all over the country, not just in the 10th (or 9th as the case may be ;-). Well Dan, its one thing to hopelesly clog traffic, but you have offered no alternative to high gas prices (unless of course you want to ride around with me and TA and fill our tanks; if that's the case call me.) I'm beginning to wonder if the catwoman gave you the idea for this little stunt- you know, blame Kirk and Bush for everything from the cost of gas to the hassle of having to sit in traffic at - whoops, no, better leave that part out.
C'mon Dan, get real...

Posted on that other blog site in case it gets deleted:

"Kirk having a press conference at a gas station is "almost" the same as pumping and purchasing gasoline for potential voters? LOL!

Next thing you will argue that a paralegal is "almost" the same as a lawyer.

Seals is bribing potential voters to vote for him. Why not just sent a free can of gasoline to each household in the district? It is a "gift" in exchange for a vote. "I'm not buying votes" Seals sounded as sincere as "I didn't have any sexual relationship with that woman" Bill Clinton.

I think this letter pretty much sums up the frustration felt by many who were denied discounted gas by Seals' ill-planned and implemented stunt.

If Seals had been up front about limiting the promotion to only the first 50 cars, clearly there would not have been a mass migration of people to that gas station, and the traffic jam problem could have been avoided. Of course, maybe the press wouldn't have noticed the stunt, then, so Seals probably felt he couldn't afford to be truthful.

Voters in the 10th District should pay attention to Seals' actions as the fallout continues to hit Seals...
