Yep, it appears that the appointment of Roland Burris was sure an interesting sideshow for a while, but now that the House impeachment committee has voted 21-0, it looks like the train to impeach Governor Blagojevich is pretty much unstoppable. Next stop, the full House, then trial in the Senate. It's sad for the state, but for the revitalization of a viable two-party system in Illinois, perhaps it simply had to come to this.
Frankly, the electorate in Illinois is not blameless. If you keep sending the same corrupt officials back into office (especially, you folks in Cook County listening?), you get what you deserve to some degree.
People have an awfully short memory. How else can politicians like Dick Durbin make a boldfaced lie about what their position on Burris was last week, and then do a complete flip-flop, and pass it off as the truth. Sadly, he'll probably get away with it.
The Governor won't. But look what it had to come to. As my old high school football coach used to say, pitiful, boys, just pitiful.
FROM THE "JUST CURIOUS FILE": Anyone now think that if Lt. Guv Pat Quinn gets in after Blago is impeached, he would appoint another person to 'compete' for the title of rightfully appointed junior senator from Illinois? That sure seemed like a viable, even likely, scenario, just a few days ago. Now, not so much.

Quinn doesn't deserve to be placed even in the same article as Blago. Quinn was supposed to quietly do what the Lt. Governor is supposed to do, take orders from the Governor, yet he has time and again resisted being a pawn in Blago's foul play. TA, go ahead and chastise Quinn for desiring to be Governor, it just weakens your argument--what person in their rightful mind wouldn't want to Blago out of office, especially if it puts an even-keeled person like Quinn into office. It is inevitable that Lisa Madigan will be our governor come 2010, but expect to Quinn to either make a push for that Senate seat or play a key role in puttin the IL House back in order in the next 2 years. This whole Burris situation is a large mess and I couldn't agree more that Bobby Rush has severely damaged his credibility in my eyes and in the eyes of most voters by playing the race card here. I completely agree with Reid and Durbin's reasoning on not seating Burris, but the problem is that the blocked appointment will never hold up in court. If challenged, the USSC has clearly ruled in the past that someone who meets the Constitutional criteria for the office and has been legally elected/appoiointed by the state's laws must be, by law, seated. The IL State House made a large mistake by not attempting to revoke the appointment power of the Governor and that mistake will ensure that Burris is seated in the coming days. Unfortunately TA, the "in house" issues of the Democrats in Chicago will not turn Illinois red anytime soon.

Patrick Quinn stood at Blagojevich's side and defended him until just recently. Quinn went out of his way to call Blagojevich honest and forthright, even when charges surfaced about pay to play, $25,000.00 donations that bought state jobs and state contracts and even a $1,500.00 "gift" to one of Blagojevich's children from someone who just coincidentally landed a state job.
It was only after early 2007, when Blagojevich stopped talking to Quinn that Quinn suddenly donned his "reformer" "populist" armor and began spouting off.
His calls for a special election are now quieted by the Burris appointment.
Hypocrite. No, I take that back. A Massive Hypocrite. With a capital "H". He wanted to be Lt. Gov. so bad he sold his soul. He wants to be Governor so bad right now he is again selling his soul.
Not much to defend there.
Like a whole bunch of Democrats who kept supporting Governor Dead Meat long after it was clear there was something wrong. Quinn needs to be held accountable along with the rest of the Democrats.
That includes hypocrites like Burris and Rush who found Blagojevich's actions appalling but then changed their minds when he appointed Burris.
That includes the Madigans and others who continued supporting and enabling this clown.
Blagojevich had the audacity to crucify Topinka for "dancing with Ryan" during his last campaign. The links to Blagojevich to various Democrats including many in this area will not be forgotten.
I know as Moraine Township GOP Chairman that I did NOT campaign for that clown. Lake County Democrats did and also endorsed him.
