Is the Lovefest for Dan Seals Over?

Today Eric Zorn of the Tribune officially ends his love affair (journalistically speaking, of course) with two-time losing 10th District candidate Dan Seals (to see what I mean about the Zorn/Seals lovefest, revisit this Zorn column where he suggests Seals might have been a good appointment for U.S. Senate when that was in question before Burris was put in by Blago).

While Zorn claims not to be endorsing State Rep. Julie Hamos, who announces for IL-10 today, Zorn's timing with his soul-searching revelation implies a little more to me. After all, he could have come to the same conclusion immediately after Seals announced his candidacy, given that a viable (if not overly exciting) alternative candidate, State Senator Michael Bond, was already in the race.

"Seals has had his chance and should step aside," says Zorn.

Yup.

Our friend Ellen of the Tenth was also noted as backing away from Seals in a comment on one of her DailyKos posts. It will be interesting to see what side Lauren Beth Gash and her 10th Dems take.

Dan, Dan, we barely knew ya before you left us.

Another one jumping in, although this guy is more of an elliot richardson than a julie hamos.

If Jim Kirsch does jump into this race it will be pathetic. He gives new meaning to empty suit. Julie Hamos will have Jan, Creamer, Garrett, May and I'm sure Gash and Gill in her corner. If all of that doesn't scare you to death I don't know what will. Since we don't know much about Elliot Richardson it's hard to know how he will factor into this whole unfolding Democrat race right now. And on the Republican side? I continue to believe that Beth Coulson would offer the best hope of retaining the seat for our side. I would not be supporting Cadigan, not at all. Will not judge Green until I hear and know more. As for old Dan, I think his time has come, and come and now is gone.

1. The the longer the pup barks the better the party gets for the GOP. Remember, we want a bloody, nasty democrat primary. We want total resource depletion, hurt feelings, agitation, testing of messages (you are unemployed, you're a blago lover, you only want taxes raised on some people-I want them raised on ALL people). Jay sapped a lot of Seals's money and forced dan to run to the left of him on israel which gave mark room there. He also started the thinking that dan was a loser whose time had passed which helped with independents. We want dan around and we want more demcocrats to run. Who knows what kind of lee goodman/howard dean kook could emerge and give us the seat on a silver platter.

2. Jim Kirsch is very wealthy, lives in a mansion next to the lake in southern Highland Park, and could win the hearts of moderate democrats. Don't underestimate a loaded gun with all of the failures of springfield.

All good points, FOKLAES. In fact, if the field on the Dem sides continues to fill up, Seals may very well have some hope, since he still has high name recognition and some goodwill from Dem voters, that could carry the day in a very splintered primary field.

Team, we want them to bleed and fight it out. I wish pup ill, but we have to think what's in our long term interest and you know his only way to survive will to badly wound bond and hamos on springfield ethics. Remember, Al Gore in 1988 was the guy that came up with Willie Horton, not bush. It helped us a bit later on.

OK Foklaes, I get your point. The thought of seeing the pup out there again is just painful but, as you're saying, might be helpful. Given your logic let's hope that a lot more Dems decide to jump into the fray. I'll have a report later on the Hamos event and will post later.

We want Dan alive and kicking, giving a victory speech on primary night. You honestly think democrat operatives in d.c. and chicago are going to want to waste money and energy on the guy again a year from now? Hell No. That's why he's thebest choice for them. He will depress their spirits thinking all the work will go for naught. Plus you think Obama is going to do anything to help a potential 3 time loser?

Interesting to note that Julie Hamos did NOT invite Ms. Gash to stand with her at her announcement earlier today. Why not? Hamos doesn't like Ms. Trash. Sources who were there tell that LBG was miffed at being dissed in public. Oh well. And Hamos is NOT planning on moving into the 10th District. I guess Democrats feel that it's not important to live in a district one wants to represent.

It's in gash or should we say lucky mom as she was known on catwoman's blog best interest to not see the seat won by a dem. If it is, her organization becomes irrelevant and she becomes a random volunteer as the dem rep becomes queen/king of the dem local outfit. Has to hurt her feelings that a jewish woman could win the seat she couldn't. Curious as to why she herself isn't running again.

Anonymous said...

Anon 5:12 you must be kidding. Ms. Trash has nobody in her camp. Nobody. She couldn't win for animal warden. You're correct in your statement that she and her organization will be more than irrelevant should Hamos pull this off. And she just might be the one to do this unless we can find a Republican with the integrity and the ability. We don't know if Kirsch will decide to try to make a run at this time. Hamos would crush him like a bug. By the way, that's the Evanston beach in the Hamos video. Nice touch.

Apparently Hamos the Hog has put Julie sweet on staff who just ran a losing campaign for congress by coming in 4th place in guess where...? CHICAGO.

Kirsch is jewish and loaded, and unlike Hamos the hog probably not weak on israel and a neo-communist. In her letter to supporters she touts her work building a "strong economy" and "frugal". That would be the illinois economy that is suffering the worst unemployment in 26 years and Illinois state government with an 11 billion dollar budget deficit.

FOKLAES-
I definitely agree with you that Springfield is going to be a huge problem for anyone running from Springfield, particularly on budget and economy issues. However, Hamos won't have a lot of problems with the Jewish community, as you suggest. Her parents are Holocaust survivors, and I haven't seen any empirical evidence of her being anti-Israel.

As for your evaluation of the 08 primary, I agree that it forced Seals to spend precious money. But, if you look at his statements, Seals never ran to the left of anyone on Israel. Indeed, during the one debate of the general, Seals asserted correctly that Seals and Kirk agreed on Israel. Seals made similar statements during the primary campaign.

And to Anons 4:59, 5:12 and 5:48-
All previous evidence suggests that Lauren Beth Gash and Tenth Dems will be neutral in the primary, as they were in 2006 and 2008. As to the suggestion that Gash wants a Republican to win this seat...that's a pretty silly thing to think. Gash by no means has absolute power over the Democratic organization in the district, and therefor has no incentive to preserve said non-existent power. She's spent the lion's share of the last decade devoting her days to turning this district blue. Perhaps more than anyone else, Lauren Beth Gash wants this district represented by a Democrat.

Oh, guys...Ms. Trash? Hamos the Hog? Seriously? You can be partisan without being teenagers about it.

Anonymous said...

Um Gash was jewish and didn't win the district. Unlike in 2000, the democrats have really screwed the state and there will be a HUGE difference on Iran between the gop and democrat. What Hamos the Hog's parents went through was tough, but that doesn't earn her a free pass from the jewish community for being an awful state legislator. If she is going to join the anti-israel progressive caucus, voters need to know.

Get over it,Tikkunolam. You are light on your facts on both Hamos and Kirsch, other things as well. Just because someone is born Jewish does not mean that they are pro-Israel, supportive, centrists on that issue. Quite the opposite is true as we know. Seals would have been a total disaster as evidenced by his comment that he'd come down on the side of peace. Remember? He, Hamos, Kirsch, Gash, and others would be most comfortable supporting the Peace Now and Leftie groups advocating that Israel go back to the pre-67 borders. How can you say that Gash will be neutral in the primary when she wanted to force herself onto the platform with Hamos today? That Hamos rejected her is the first step in the right direction. This would appear to be Hamos's to lose, but time will tell. She is a far left liberal that will be a hard sell in Palatine, Mt. Prospect, Arlington Heights for starters.

Don't use the term liberal, because some people up here are. Better terms for hamos the hog include, extremist, partisan, career politician, lobbyist insider, blagoyevich enabler, political hack, carpetbagger, out of district stooge, implant, tool for special interest, know nothing, do nothing, old, out of touch, smarmy.

Also congratulations to the state party on another miserable performance. Andy McKenna continues to outdo himself every day as the best Republican party chair in the history of the democrat party. This woman needed to be hit hard today so that we can start defining her before she puts up some up some fraud of how she is a good leader.

BREAKING NEWS:
So TA, noticed good old Julie Hamos has her LEGISLATIVE contact info up on her CAMPAIGN website...this violates FEC regulations, she is advocating that her taxpayer funded office will be used to address campaign related matters and concerns. This really speaks to both her and her campaign staff's professionalism as this is about the most blatant slip-up a campaign can make.

Its a real shame that at a time when Americans' are paying more for about anything that you can think of a Democratic Congressional candidate chooses to skirt around election laws and chooses to have Illinois taxpayers flip the bill for her campaign efforts. I guess this is only a little taste of what Schakowsky style politics is all about.

Anyways...here is the website link: http://salsa.wiredforchange.com/o/5596/t/4115/signUp.jsp?key=2186

FYI I saved the page as a PDF, just in case...

Contrary to some of the silly and childish remarks about Democrats (seriously, can't we expect a bit more maturity from Team America posters or elevated standards for comments from TA, himself?), I'd like to clarify something about Lauren Beth Gash and the Tenth Dems.

I know, to a certainty, that Lauren was absolutely invited to stand up with her good friend and former colleague, Julie, during her announcement. They were allies in the Illinois House together and just a few months ago Lauren hosted a party in her home for Julie (at the time Julie was mulling a run for Attorney General). I was there and it was packed.

It was probably difficult for Lauren to not join Julie on the podium but Lauren has not yet made a formal endorsement in the primary, so she attended but did not agree to stand on the podium. She knows that Julie is a terrific candidate and spent quite a bit of time with Julie and her staff at the Heller Nature Center after the event.

As TA himself pointed out, Tenth Dems is a strong organization, but for those of you who want to discount the organization in the area, that's even better for them, so keep it up. By the way, they've been involved in elections at the township, county and other levels, not just Congress. Look at the results of Democrats winning the lower level offices in the Tenth. They've had tremendous success at fielding candidates and winning elections.

Lauren's also an attorney, is involved with several non-political non-profits, and a mom of two grown children (and it's not true that she's the "lucky mom" poster who someone yesterday said she was). Some of those posts were the opposite of her views, by the way.

Interesting, Anon 9:36. So does that mean that LBG is definitely leaving poor Dan Seals in the dust? I thought LBG and the 10th Dems thought he was the next best thing to Barack Obama (Seals sure did).

Team,

They turned Dan from an unemployed ex-intern into a man that became a credible threat to bring his foolishness to congress, the way the 9th dems turned Jan from a rabid partisan hack into a rabid congressional partisan hack with a lot of bark.

Bond, Kirsch, Seals and Richardson should google Mike Quigley and Sarah Feighenholtz. Feighenholtz was a hamos clone:giving blank checks to corruption, huge money and feminazi support, and got trashed because people saw her as a stooge.
