GOP Field Begins to Thin for IL-10 in Wake of Beth Coulson Announcement: Renee Thaler Is Out

It appears that the unofficial announcement of State Rep. Beth Coulson for Mark Kirk's 10th Congressional District spot is already starting to thin the GOP primary field somewhat.

Renee Thaler, a former Edgar administration office whom we profiled here, told Team America this afternoon that she has decided not to pursue the race, given that she and Coulson are almost identical on the issues. Thaler and Coulson have known each other a long time, and interestingly, while Thaler says she wishes Coulson well, Thaler isn't ready to endorse Coulson (or assumedly anyone else) quite yet.

It will probably be a bit before things settle down as to the GOP field, and TA even expects that one or two more fairly serious contenders will present themselves before this is all done. Of course, we also need to wait to see who actually circulates petitions and gets on the primary ballot (and here in the Lake County part of the 10th District, we're certainly not shy about ballot challenges by either Dems or Republicans, so we need to hang on for a few months yet).

Coulson's entry, however, is sure to make a few other folks rethink their plan, either because they believe Coulson is the best candidate for the office, or that she simply is unbeatable in the primary.

Patricia Bird is still in the race as far as I know. I believe she's the one who spoke out against cap-n-traitor Kirk as a town hall meeting recently and said she decided to run for Congress because she was sick of Kirk doing the bidding of the Democrats. Good to see we have some actual Republicans in the field. The GOP has to stand for something but the Mark Kirk wing of the party is so liberal they're to the left of many card-carrying Democrats in Illinois.

Beth Coulson is opposed to both cap & trade and the health care bill

If she's opposed to cap-n-trade then perhaps she'll be a millimeter better than Kirk (notice that Kirk claims he "got the message" on cap and trade but refuses to say he'd change his vote if he could do it over and and refuses to say he'll oppose it in the Senate. Hmmm.) On the other hand, even Mark Kirk realized Blago was toxic to the Dems and took pot shots at him, whereas Coulson actually tied her scumbag and his agenda during her re-election campaign. (remember, a majority of Illinoisans voted AGAINST Blago when he won re-election). She showed very bad judgment there.

Who will run for Coulson's seat? That's a tough seat. You'd need a Jewish moderate from Skokie to get your share in D areas. And some experience/familiarity with the rest of the district.

No republican w/anything to do with the GOP's bad news bears like performance in springfield the last several years deserves anything. I'm sure these millionaires are going through her springfield record right now prepping 30 seconds of Elizabeth Blagoyevich. this woman is toast like the bread on the blt I had for lunch.

I'm loving the comparisions to loleta didrickson I'm seeing. Another uninspired female candidate who collapsed when voters found out she wasn't a real gop.

Good riddance to thaler, pick a team and stick to it. I'll take 5 diehards willing to work hard over 15 fake republicans.

I just read on Coulson's website that she was endorsed in her last election by SEIU, AFL-CIO and AFSCME!!! She has already brought on 2 Hard Democrats who have never voted in a Republican primary to run her REPUBLICAN PRIMARY race. I'm with FOKLAES. She's toast. If any Republican committeeman go with her they ought to be voted out of office.

This needs to be posted. She was endorsed by BLAGO!! Uh oh. She is clearly the Blago/Democrat candidate in the Republican Primary. If it's her and hamos, I'll just vote Hamos so we can get a real moderate republican in 2012.

Anon dudes - have you ever even looked at Coulson's state rep district re: breakdown of type of voters? Ya know, the constituents she represented? Get real & read a newspaper. Your blogolicious diet is causing too much space between the ears. I know ya'll wanta hate a gop'er that isn't just like you - why don't you run for office? 'fraid you'll lose?

She endorsed 3 democrats. There's never an excuse for a Republican to endorse 1 Democrat, much less 3, one of which was blagoyevich. If it's her and Seals, you really want to be walking preccincts in nasty october weather explaining to your neighbors why a REPUBLICAN deserves election to congress who was endorsed by BLAGO. I am phyiscally ill.

For the record, her area was the same area that was the launching pad for rumsfeld so don't give me any of that area is liberal so she has to blend into win crap. Mark was also from the same area and raised 200k for bush, endorsed him 3 times 2000 primary, 2000 general 2004 general, and still won big in 2004 and survived in 2000 and 2006.

She should resign her bid, run for state rep, and apologize for the endorsements. Gross.

Let's face reality. A Republican primary candidate cannot be endorsed by labor, environment, pro abortion, gay rights and anti-gun groups and win. Add in her Blago/Coulson mailer and her campaign staff and it is just too far to the left even for the 10th. Her campaign is over before it even started. I'm confident that we have a better candidate out there. We need a moderate not a Democrat. Petitions aren't due until the end of October. We still have time to find our shining star.

Anon 8:35 is right and you, Foklaes, are out to lunch. Do you know how this district has changed over the years? Have you any clue about the reality of what it takes to win today? To compare what Beth Coulson faces today to what Kirk faced in 2000 is to compare peaches to bananas. Life as you'd like it to be just ain't so. Beth needs to be encouraged and supported if we're to have any chance at all of holding this seat. And Foklaes, are you cheering now that McKenna is out of the picture?

Andy McKenna is a nice man who took a tough job. But he will never be forgiven for jettisoning Peter Fitzgerald. Just think if Senator Fitzgerald hadn't been forced out by McKenna and benidct arnold Lahood, then obama quits politics and democrats in this state are blago with no obama to bail them out. McKenna if you've ever met the guy lacked the piss and vigor that a party in the 7th most dem state in america needs to get turned around. He lacked a head and a motor.

I want this party to win and win for a long time, on election day and then in government. This woman has been an awful legislator as part of a republican caucus with no ideas and no leadership and her only way to win has been by saddling up to the worst governor in Illinois history. we can do better and we will.

Finally it's a great point that all her supporters must consider. How humiliating would it be to spend next fall when we should be destroying dems for blago, having to defend our candidate's support for that thug? We can do without that garbage and her campaign.

Received an email from the Coulson For Congress campaign this evening. In addition to her treacherous actions with the Blago-Coulson and Obama-Coulson mailers, Ive got zero desire to help Beth win this seat when liberal Democrats like Jen Belkov and Joe Woodward are her campaign managers. They are both lost and clueless about the 10th and since they'll be on point giving her advice she might as well come out of the closet and run as a DEM! If its Hamos v Coulson, I might as well vote Hamos since I'll know what kind of socialist I'm electing!

RINOS UNWELCOME!

In Studio - Republicans got a big surprise during their big day at the state fair. Party Chairman Andy McKenna resigned.

McKenna told us today on "Good Day Chicago" that he stepped down for personal reasons and wanted to make sure a chairman was in place before next year's elections.

He also talked about his thoughts on the public option for health care reform on the heels of vice president Biden's visit to Chicago yesterday.

From the interview brady looks like the kind of wholesome no nonsense Republican leader that can bring the left and right of party together to blow up the Democrats. We'll see, but this is definitley a good morning for the GOP.

Really, Julie Belkov? Wasnt she the one who nearly ran Beth's campaign into the ground in '08?
