Dick Green Spends Some (Green) in IL-10 Cable Ad Buy

CQ Politics is reporting that 10th Congressional District GOP hopeful Dick Green is going up on cable TV with a campaign ad, the first Republican of the race to do so. CQ reports that Green will spend $100,000 over three weeks on the ad.

As we previously reported, Green lagged other GOP primary candidates in Q3 fundraising but has the personal ability to pump a lot of coin into the race, and while (to TA's knowledge) he has not publicly stated a dollar amount he'd be personally willing to spend, he has stated something to the effect that he would have whatever resources he needed to compete and win.

"he has stated something to the effect that he would have whatever resources he needed to compete and win". The Milkman Jim Oberweis used to say the same thing.
He couldn't even spend enough to get the New Trier endorsement.

Anon 2:44.

That's called bribery.

NTRO endorsement was in-kind payback to local family with network and roots....not merit based.

Green is Michael Huffington with a moustache...

Spreading a rumor that Coulson was urged by Steele and the ILGOP to run for her old state rep seat? Accusing Dick Green of bribery?

I am still undecided in IL-10, but Dold isn't scoring any points having his staffers spam up TA with negative comments.

Maybe Dold can score points with his position on abortion. Both of them.

dold will get destroyed in the general if he is anything less than 100 percent prochoice. He or cadigan should have manned up and taken on bean.

that seat btw is 7 percent more republican and they wouldn't have to deal with catwoman.

Also if you are going to say something put a name up so those of us not named team america know who you are. crookcounty, yassirhamos, cornpups, edpkellyiscool are all good names.

the ad is about as exciting as last weeks bears game. in case he hasn't read a newspaper, 1994 republican talking points haven't worked here since 1998.

Foklaes I fully understand that you have to be pro-choice in the 10th CD but your statement about needing to be 100% pro-choice is not correct. Mark Kirk supports parental notification, is against late term abortions and is against federal funding. Beth Coulson is 100% pro-choice which means she opposes parental notification, supports federal funding and is against the government saying you can't do a late term abortion. Big difference. She even supported legislation to overturn roe v wade.

That last anon poster must have mistyped. Coulson definitely didn't vote on any legislation to overturn Roe v. Wade. She voted to keep abortion legal in Illinois if Roe v. Wade was thrown out.

sweet commercial, Dick! Dark, angry... aviator jacket. Good use of your money. At least your nonexistent donors won't call to complain.

Maybe Dick Green should spend his money on creating robot people who will actually go out and vote for him?

In congressional races, abortion views shouldn't be considered. Federal laws, that mention abortion, violate the 10th Amendment. I'm pro-life, but I think that each state legislature should ban abortion, except to save the mother's life. Federal involvement, in that subject, is unconstitutional.

Dold's people compare Green to Oberweis (inherited a dairy company) and Huffington (oil money) when their candidate is the one who inherited the family business after he could not make it on his own. Beth has served us well for 13 years and Green has succeeded in business on his own. What has Dold done?

Anon,

nothing. The job with burton was through connections, his startup failed, he inherited a business. This campaign is quayle (dold) versus forbes (green) versus susan collins (coulson). Yuck, yuck and yuck. cadigan had the chance to be a comer but apparently he didn't even get invited to the endorsement meeting at the tribune, which means he isn't viable in their eyes.ouch.

The green people might reference ron gidwitz or steve greenburg or any other number of people who have inherited businesses, done nothing in the public realm and then declared themselves fit to lead.

FOKLAES - I am informed by the Cadigan campaign that Bill was indeed invited to participate in the Tribune endorsement process and Cadigan will be meeting with their editorial board next week.

KIRK'S REAL RECORD ON ABORTION:

Mark Kirk voted NO on HR 760, to prohibit partial-birth abortion.
Mark Kirk voted NO on HR 748, restricting interstate transport of minors to get abortions.
Mark Kirk voted NO on HR 1997, making it a crime to harm a fetus during another crime.
Mark Kirk voted NO on HR 4691, funding for health providers who don't provide abortion info.
Mark Kirk voted NO on HR 1646, banning Family Planning funding in US aid abroad.
Mark Kirk voted NO on HR 503, making it a federal crime to harm a fetus while committing other crimes.
Mark Kirk voted YES on HR 3, expanding research to more embryonic stem cell lines.
Mark Kirk voted YES on HR 3, allowing human embryonic stem cell research.
Mark Kirk voted NO on ROLL CALL 643, an amendment that would stop federal taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood through the Title X Family Planning programs. Planned Parenthood received more than $350 million in taxpayer money from federal, state, and local governments in fiscal year 2007-2008.
Mark Kirk was repeated endorsed over his liberal Democrat opponent by Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood actually preferred having Kirk in office more than an Obama clone.
Mark Kirk voted with NARAL Pro-Choice America (the National Abortion Rights Action League) 100% of the time from 2007 to 2008.
Mark Kirk was the ONLY Republican in either the House or Senate to receive a 100% perfect rating from Planned Parenthood in 2008 and 2006.

As everyone can see from above, the post about the "big difference" between Kirk and Coulson's position on abortion is incorrect. Kirk's record is no different than Coulson, he is militantly pro-abortion and supports taxpayer abortion on demand in all circumstances, including for underage minors. Kirk has refused to waver from his extreme views on abortion, even though he changed his position cap n' trade and many other hot button issues in order to win the GOP primary. Since not only are most GOP voters -- but the vast majority of voters in general -- oppose third trimester abortion, one wonders why Kirk continues his unwavering support of it. Such extreme views certainly won't help him win over "middle of the road" people. I would have to conclude that Kirk honestly believes you should be allowed to kill an infant during birth. Disturbing.
