NRCC Adds IL-10 Hopefuls Coulson, Dold and Green to its "Young Guns" Program

The Hill notes today that the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) has added three contenders for Congressman Mark Kirk's seat (he's running for U.S. Senate, just in case you missed it) to its "Young Guns" program: State Rep. Elizabeth Coulson, and businessmen Bob Dold and Dick Green. Winnetka attorney Bill Cadigan was left out (one may presume based on his lower fundraising numbers for Q3 compared to the others). Dark horse candidate Paul Hamann (who filed petitions yesterday) was also left off.

Cadigan is a nice guy but he isn't gaining any traction and is running a second rate campaign. He needs to bow out graciously. The longer he stays in the more it helps Acorn/ SEIU backed Coulson.

It's a good win for the campaigns to be named to this stuff. Give them credit. cadigan has 90 days. Porter better give one amazing endorsement.

Dold and green should google douglas hoffman and start laying the wood to coulson.

Young Guns from the NRCC is a boost for Coulson

How much money do you get for being a Young Gun?

Depends on how much gold the stagecoach is carrying when you rob it.

Coulson?????

Don't you have to be a Republican to be an NRCC Young Gun?

Green?????

Don't you have to be young to be an NRCC Young Gun?

It's a program designed in the 2008 cycle to incentivize candidates to step up and to provide guidance to donors and the media as to who is making progress in their campaigns. I'm guessing they were looking for a 150k in fundraising, some minor endorsements, and some show of support in polls. It's not a huge deal-some pundits have called green a leading contender and he wouldn't have come in 6th place in 2000.

King Louis Astaves, will you join me in abandoning matt murphy now that he has gone on board with andy mckenna?

FOKLAES, I won't abandon Matt Murphy. He knows how I feel about the events of the past few months. I would have preferred that he soldier on in the governor's race, but the man still has a bright future and I will continue to support him.

You should know me by now. I don't hold back my opinions and always try to tell it like it is. I would rather be honest than a sneak. Not everyone appreciates that about me, but at least I'm up front about it. If my honesty gets a few upset, then so be it. It got me kicked off you know who's blog site, and I'm still amused and proud of that!

It takes less effort to walk a straight line instead of a crooked path.

No one likes a sneak or a two faced type in politics or in real life. Unlike a few I know in the political arena that would fit that bill, Matt Murphy is the total opposite.

So I won't abandon him. Scold him? You bet!

King Louis,

You continue to show the tenacity of 10,000 democrat ward hacks.

with candidates its what they do when the going gets tough. Mark walked away from tough votes on capn'trade and the surge, but stood tall on other issues. Murphy couldn't raise the dough, he should have started planning his ascent earlier, hired a better political team (where does such incompetence come from?) or run a guerilla grassroots campaign. Instead, a guy with no record attached himself to the worst state party chair in history. McKenna stands for nothing but Andy McKenna, he's a visionless insider with bad commercials.

murphy's done and he should liberate you to focus on candidates with spine to stand and fight.

OUCH!

As an American of Greek descent, I prefer to think of it as showing the tenacity of the 300 committed Spartan warriors who held off thousands of the enemy back in antiquity days. Against all odds. United in cause no matter what individual beliefs were.

Leaving no fellow warrior behind or exposed to the enemy. When the Spartan warriors lined up for battle, their shields protected not themselves, but the warrior next to him. And if anyone broke the line, cut and ran or did business for themselves, they were toast at the swords of the Spartans. They were sent into battle because they were battle tested and found worthy, so desertion or selfish behavior was never a good option.

The Spartan kings fought alongside their troops and King Leonidas died with the 300. They didn't stay behind the lines and pretend to be chessmen or Machivelli. There was nothing "behind the scenes" or sneaky about those leaders.

They looked their opponents in the eye and told them to their face what their intentions were. And then acted on them.

Murphy is worthy. His behavior and votes in Springfield have been exemplary. He is entitled to make a few mistakes along the way, so long as they are honest ones. He, like the rest of us, need to focus on obtaining our goals by standing tall and earning respect to the best of our abilities.

That's why I have no patience for the sneaks and two-faced types in politics. Murphy doesn't fall into that category. But he, like the rest of us, need to be careful not to be perceived in such a manner.
