Dan Seals' Top Donor Charlie Rangel Subject of House Ethics Probe; Seals Still Won't Return Contributions

It's official! Dan Seals' number one contributor is now the subject of an official House Ethics probe.

On Wednesday, the House Ethics Committee voted to launch an offical probe into Congressman Charlie Rangel's alleged illegal activities. As you'll recall, Dan Seals has taken $55,000 from Charlie Rangel.

According to an Ethics Committee press release, the probe will examine allegations that Rangel abused his public position to raise corporate funds for a library bearing his name, illegally rented multiple rent-controlled apartments in Harlem, failed to disclose income from a property in the Dominican Republic and illegally stored a personally-owned vehicle in the House parking garage.

And Dan Seals remains silent.

The Hill newspaper called the latest development "a significant step indicating that the panel's members believe the allegations are complex, serious or both."

And Dan Seals remains silent.

Several Democratic candidates around the country have already returned contributions to Rangel, including U.S. Rep. Dave Loebsack (D-IA) and Alaska candidate Mark Begich.

And Dan Seals remains silent.

On Monday, the Palm Beach Post called on U.S. Reps. Tim Mahoney, Ron Klein and Alcee Hastings to return their Rangel contributions. Combined, the three Democrats accepted $29,000 from Rangel -- just over half the amount accepted by Dan Seals.

And Dan Seals remains silent.

While some Democrats have shown the courage to stand up to Charlie Rangel and give back his dirty money, Dan Seals remains silent. We already have a governor who knows how to take the Fifth when it comes to corruption in his midst -- we don't need a congressman who does the same.

How can Dan Seals change Washington when he won't even stand up to his own campaign supporter's corruption and illegal activity?

Hey TA, Seals needs that money to pay for full page Ads in the Pioneer Press from scum bags like Debbie Wasserman Schultz slamming Mark and praising Seals. Both the top and the bottom of the Ad clearly say that it's paid for by Seals. Wasserman Schultz is lending her name to similar Ads all over the country. It smacks of the same nutty stuff that I just got in the mail: a brochure from Seals, courtesy of the DCCC, that has Mark Kirk's head on clearly someone else's body. This is more than the silly season. Oh yes, Debbie Wasserman Schultz is who? What a waste of $5,000. But TA, that's why Seals can't return the money from that other 'paragon' of virtue, Rangel, since he needs it for more Ads that don't do a thing for him. How could it.

There is more coming on Seals and his ethics...

No doubt. The politico notes a poll done last month on Dan showing him 7 points down. Mark's pollster is notorious for being overly optimistic with Republicans and I think it is closer to a 10-13 point Kirk edge right now than 22 points. Still though the fact that Mark is up in a very very democratic poll is a good sign.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz in addition to being hideous looking (she's the florida dems version of Katherine Harris) is a classic K street doyenne. There's more hair gel on her head than substance in it.

No surprise on Dan's ethics.
