"Highly Effective" Suzi Schmidt Endorsed By Chicago Tribune in 31st State Senate Race

I was thrilled to see tonight that my good friend Suzi Schmidt handily won endorsement from the Chicago Tribune over the hapless incumbent, Democrat Michael Bond, in the 31st District State Senate race:

Count us as a longtime fan of Suzi Schmidt of Lake Villa, who first established herself as an open space advocate in Lake County and is now the highly effective chairman of the Lake County Board. She's a hands-on administrator who has held the line on taxes and cut county spending. Case in point: She reduced the number of workers with county cars from 100 to 3. Springfield needs her political skills and her common sense. She is endorsed over Democratic Sen. Michael Bond of Grayslake who narrowly won this seat four years ago.

interestingly michael bond, once thought of as a candidate to run against seals, was not endorsed. talk about a fading career. If hamos was the has been, seals is the also ran, bond seems like the never was.

That's clever foklaeaps. That Ivy League sense of humor just keeps shining through.

The Tribune says Suzi 'held the line on taxes.' Really? She raised sales taxes. She raised her own pay. She increased the size of Lake County government at a rate nearly double the population increase over the past decade.

Schmidt is NOT endorsed by the Illinois Chamber of Commerce. Bond IS endorsed by the Illinois Rifle Association.

Unbelievable. Chair of the County with the highest property tax in Illinois and 17th highest in the nation. Commands an 80K salary for a part-time job, a 6K car allowance, 3K stipend as liquor commissioner and comprehensive health and dental coverage, all using public funds.

AND Suzi has TWO taxpayer funded pensions already!

AND she regularly vacations with Suzi and Terry Link!

AND Barry Burton, her quarter of a million dollar county administrator actually does the business of the county, NOT Suzi. She's just the political bully at the front of the room.

Democrats are all upset with Schmidt? That sales tax was imposed following a county wide referendum if I recall correctly. The taxpayers of Lake County voted for it.

A far cry from tax increases Democrats like to impose on their own volition without asking the taxpayers.

And as the population of Lake County has increased, Lake County Government has increased by a similar percentage. Homer Simpson says: "Doh!"

A far cry from the population of Illinois and the number of jobs in Illinois being stagnant or decreasing in the past 10 years, while the size of Illinois Government nearly doubled under Democratic control. Homer Simpson says: "Doh!"

Congratulations Suzi! You deserve that endorsement. I would expect the Daily Herald, Sun-Times and News-Sun to follow along with the Pioneer Press.

TA, it's looking like it's time to cut this guy loose: stupid and dishonest, that's a pretty special combination:

Thank you for your selective recall, Louis. You fail to mention all the municipal and township boards Suzi attended, zealously advocating the sales tax increase. You fail to mention all the money she received from the road builders to support and advocate on behalf of this tax increase. You tell half the truth and we wonder if you even recall where you left the rest of it.

Selective recall? The voters voted for it.

What is so selective about that? Oh yeah! The Democrats who are holding tax increase votes for after November 2nd and pretend otherwise?

Suzi was upfront about it. Something everyone in Springfield should start getting used to.

Louis,

Point of clarification - the voters in Lake County twice voted down the the sales tax referendum. Twice. The General Assembly passed the 1/4c sales tax increase for RTA and increased it to a 1/2c increase for a few collar counties with the Metro Counties Organization lobby. Those counties control the additional 1/4c increase.

That said, congrats to Chairman Schmidt for the endorsement.
