Terry Link Feels "Duped" By Governor; Seeks to Remind Voters of George Ryan

No one ever said State Senator Terry Link was stupid, but it appears he may want us to think he, and the rest of the Illinois Democrats, are. He realizes that, just as the conviction and imprisonment of former Governor George Ryan cast a pall over the entire Republican Party, so too has the conviction and removal from office of just-now-former Governor Rod Blagojevich will affect all Democrats. So, it appears he wants you to think he's stupid, because that's probably better than being labeled as a Blagojevich supporter and enabler, now that Blago's been kicked out of office.

So, what's Link's spin?

Well, it's twofold: first, act shocked, SHOCKED, I tell you! Link bemoaned the fact that the darned governor DUPED them (the Democrats), for criminy sakes! Next, in fact, in the very same breath, remind everyone that the very last governor that is now sitting in prison was Republican George Ryan.

Of course, now that a Dem has been removed from office and may well be headed to jail, it's not the GOP's fault that George Ryan was a crook... they were DUPED too, and all of a sudden, not all Illinois Republicans are bad... they were victims too, just like us Dems are now.

Pathetic.

There's a huge difference between Ryan and Blago. Ryan knew he was under a cloud when it came time for his re-election, and the GOP knew it too. The GOP polices its own, and Ryan knew he wouldn't survive a primary if he ran.

Conversely, who stood behind Rod Blagojevich in 2006? The very same Democrats that are now condemning him, since it's only recently become politically necessary. Where was Pat Quinn in 2006? Right behind Blago. Same for Madigan, Link, and the rest of the Dems. For anyone who might otherwise be fooled, check out the list of what was known about Blago's issues BEFORE he ran for another term in 2006.

Let's not let them think for a second that we've been fooled. We know that when Link, Senator Michael Bond and the rest of the Blagojevich 26 had a chance to vote to adopt a recall provision for the governor, they passed. For every story about federal subpoenas, investigations, etc., there was dead silence.

Now Link's playing the victim. He was DUPED, he says! Poor Terry. His own campaign workers DUPE him, the leader of the state DUPES him, what's a Dem to do?

I understand the love for Andy McKenna. He's one of Mark's biggest long time backers, he's the only heartbeat trying to save the state gop ect. But today was PATHETIC, and the conservatives reading this are as much to blame for this mess as he is.

We're in a recession, we have an ineffective democratic governor about to go to jail (don't drop the soap) and yet NOTHING from the state party.

The communications team should be fired pronto. There were zippo-none-zero Republicans on t.v. compared to the amount of backslapping state dems, calling for wholesale change in the state and need for new leadership.

The democrats handed us a major opportunity today, and Andy blew it.

WGN Radio had a special at 7 p.m tonight and I heard Andy McKenna speaking all about our former Gov. Please folks, let's stop the damn blame game, let's stop looking backwards and roll up our collective sleeves and do something productive. This moronic blame game will get us nowhere, but being pro-active WILL.
How about a massive Letters to the Editors in every newspaper letting readers know that these folks like Link and his buddies knew all along who and what they were supporting. Keeping the pressure UP and in front of readers can help more than bitching and complaining on TA's Blog. Are you ready? Then write a LTE, call in to talk radio shows, especially on WGN and TALK.

There should be a blame game. Worst recession in a quarter century, the Democrats have a governor who ran on promises of reform going to jail and we are now the 7th most democratic state in the nation.

Mark has not a prayer of being elected a U.S. Senator because Andy hasn't united the social and fiscal conservatives and we don't have an urban playbook.

Mark's chief of staff, Eric Elk should be well aware of what happens when you get complacent as he was the leader of Phil Crane's district operation when a once vaunted conservative district fell to a soccer mom.

Link's campaign workers are now felons. He backed Blagojevich and Stroger. He spends his days now hinting that when Hyde dies, he will "get" Waukegan.

What's worse, the record is full of Susan Garrett backing Blagojevich during his first run. This may be lovingly replayed...

Let's not leave out our Democratic State Reps, who also looked the other way at Blago's corruption

I've been calling for a napalming of local democratic office holders for a few years now. Terry "Linked to the Springfield cesspool" is due for retirement.

I will give credit where it is due. Andy McKenna very smartly endorsed Michael Steele for RNC Chair. He has great academic credentials-Johns Hopkins/Georgetown, is charismatic and actually knows how to win back blue states. I hope he does a dinner up here, because he knows how to deliver zingers.

He's still a terrible party chair and deserves major shit for letting this become the 7th most liberal state in America, but he made the right call there.

I know you mean that rhetorically, FOKLAES, since we'd never condone political change through violence here...

Michael Steele is indeed a great pick- he spoke at the Federation Spring Dinner a few years back and was a huge hit. More like him, please.

Senator Link has spent six years throwing George Ryan in our faces. Now suddenly he is saying we were "duped" just like he was. That includes other Democrats in this region.

So for the Democrats, it's suddenly "oh gosh, good golly, heavens to Betsy, that was horrible, that goodness that we are nothing like that."

Sorry guys, you endorsed him, supported him and the Senate Democrats even voted to impeach him on some measures that the Senate Democrats previously supported him on. For dumbos like me who are easily "duped" that means what?

That's why Sen. Hendon was adamant about trying to separate the impeachments charges. Michael Madigan stuck it to the Senate Democrats big time during this whole mess by pressing for one big bill of impeachment only. It forced the Senate Democrats to vote to impeach Blagojevich on measures those same Democrats supported!

See. Some elephants never forget!

The Senate Democrats did a John Kerry. They were all for it before they were against it by convicting Blagojevich.

Link is very corrupt and we will hear more about his personal corruption soon

This is ridiculous! Ryan was disowned by the Illinois Republican party because he suspended the death penalty and went to Cuba, not because of any 'cloud' he was under. If you're a lawyer, I wish I was still trying cases, cuz you live on innuendo and guesses.

Ryan was under no cloud at the time? Must a Democrat posting that one. They missed all the storm clouds over Blagojevich in 2006.
