New GOP Leaders: Featuring Keith Gray

A new feature we're going to be doing here from time to time is highlighting new Republican leaders on the local scene. Today's choice is Keith Gray, who ran against State Senator Terry Link (D-Waukegan) in the 30th Senate District. The Daily Herald ran a piece on Gray in this morning's paper; check it out here. Among other things, the Herald noted that Gray is spoiling for a rematch with Link in the next senatorial election in a few years.

Keith is a great guy, and exactly the kind of candidate the Lake County GOP is looking for: articulate, smart, experienced. In his match-up against Link, Keith did not fare well as far as the numbers went, but such is to be expected when going up against the seasoned leader of the Lake County Dems, who could call on essentially unlimited resources. Keith's campaign focused heavily on some of Link's negatives, which some might criticize in terms of strategy, but when a candidate is accused of having dead people sign his petitions, it's a little hard to ignore the elephant in the bedroom. At the least, it made for some great campaign materials.

Look for more of these features here soon on some of
the best and brightest of the new crop of GOP leaders, such as Dan Duffy, Dan Sugrue, Tim Stratton, and others.

For today, let's play Campaign Manager: if you were running against Link in 2012, what would you do to depose the king once and for all?

I would sit back and wait over the next couple of months to see if the Feds have something on Terry. He was pretty tight with Blago and Emil, he was telling folks he was going to bring a casino to Waukegan and be the next Senate President.

He lost the casino. Only Link and Senator Michael Bond (one other vote out of Elgin) voted for Link.
He lost status in the Senate.

Something is a brewin...

I've got a great list of ideas but I would not put them on the blog because:

1. The Dems read your blog
2. The Dems would use your ideas

TA, Keith should have an e-mail so those of us that supported him in the past may continue to do so and also give him ideas.

1. Run against springfield.
2. Call for change.
3. Promote education reform- we are competing.
4. Draw attention to his corruption.
5. Draw attention to the fact that this state is 47th in job creation.
6. Start building the Lake County GOP now.
7. Find a picture of blago and link and put it in a campaign ad.
8. Start building name recognition by actively working on 2009 local races and 2010 campaigns.
9. Create an organization -Lake County for reform, solicit ideas and help from the public.

10. Get on the websites of think tanks here in illinois but also in d.c. and look for new ideas and trends that you would want to see implemented in Springfield.

11. Remind people that accountability in government is good and that we need to have balance and republicans to check democrats which we don't have anywhere in illinois.

12. Make King Louis Astaves your spokesman and chief agitator of lunatic liberal ellens.

13. Propose passage of the Princess Nudelman Voting Accountability Act-one goldfish should not mean one vote. Corruption discourages democracy.

14. Hire Team America to be chief research director.

I would use a better picture of Keith Gray on the flyers.

That teeth one was just horrible.

Because of the 2010 census, the legislature will redraw the district lines, in 2011, and Link's district might be very different, in 2012. I hope that several republican township officials, mayors, and town trustees, who live in Gurnee, Libertyville, and Lake Forest, are preparing to run against Link, in case his new district includes those towns.

If I were the campaign manager of one of those candidates, I would ask the candidate to support election reforms, including recall elections and term limits for all elected officials. Many voters, of all parties, support these reforms, but Link opposes them.
