Congressman Mark Kirk Goes on Offensive vs. Alexi Giannoulias With New TV Ads: "Risky" and "Stand"

In the wake of yesterday's mea culpa press conference by Congressman Mark Kirk over mistakes made in touting his military service record, Kirk is further seeking to change the focus of this race back to the foibles and vulnerabilities of his Democratic opponent, Alexi Giannoulias. A set of new TV ads will begin airing on cable and broadcast TV, entitled "Risky" and "Stand."

The Kirk for Senate Campaign summarizes the ads as follows:

The first ad, “Risky,” details Giannoulias’ failed record as a banker and Treasurer, including his loans to organized crime figures, risky lending schemes that brought down Broadway Bank and losses in the Bright Start college savings fund. “Risky” also reminds voters about Giannoulias’ support for higher taxes and increased spending. The second ad, “Stand,” focuses on the candidates’ differences on BP and job-killing energy taxes.

"RISKY"

"STAND"

You can see from these ads that Team Kirk means business. However, we can all recognize that, much as Alexi was essentially forced to go up on TV several weeks ago to rehabilitate his image in the wake of the damage done to him by the failed Broadway Bank, I think it's fair to say that Kirk wasn't planning to have to shoot bullets like these until the fall. It's going to be one hell of a roller coaster ride into November, that's for sure.

"Whiskey" loans?

Cheap shot.

Get a hearing aid, learn how to read you nitwit. The word is RISKY and not whiskey. Geez, pathetic is what you are.

I thought the Kirk camp wanted to "move on". Isn't that what they all shouted yesterday?

Now we're back to anoun-averb-andbroadwaybank... weak.

The only "risky" thing here is Kirk putting out an ad saying he was a leader on the BP toxic dumping in Lake Michigan when the Sierra Club specifically endorsed Giannoulias in part because they saw that Kirk only used it as a PR stunt, and embellished anything he did since other actual leaders took more action against BP than Mark "Drill Baby Drill" Kirk.

Oops!

"Offense" is back to being passive-aggressive, using terms like "nitwit" and "pathetic".

Yeah! Flex those strong and powerful muscles.

This is turning into the Republican version of the Rod & Patti show.

Rob,

Kirk actually did something on the BP issue in Lake Michigan, like it or not Democrats. The State Treasurer of Illinois really did nothing other than purchasing an SUV for the money losing Bright Start Program that was a Hybred for use of ?????????

So the goo-goo's then turn around and endorse the man with no real record, Giannoulias? The man with the "senior advisor" who is a BP lobbyist? You know, Alexi?

The same Giannoulias who backs everything Obama says and does, even that short period of time where Obama subscribed to "drill baby drill?" Before the big oil leak Obama stayed away from until everyone started remarking about him being on golf courses instead of managing a crisis, like, say, Katrina? And Giannoulias uttered not one critical word? Of course not, with his pal Endy acting as a BP lobbyist and "senior advisor" to the Giannoulias campaign, he would look awfully like a hypocrit, now wouldn't he?

OK then, clear as mud.

This week opening up a Southern Illinois office for the Treasurer isn't a publicity stunt (on the taxpayer's dime no less)? Granting insurance rights to same sex couples two weeks ago isn't a publicity stunt (on the taxpayer's dime no less)? Why did he wait three plus years to take such actions?

OK then, clear as mud.

And calling Blagojevich on behalf of Jarrett and then claiming to the press that he really wasn't interested in the U.S. Senate seat, and then asking the SEIU honcho to put in a good word for Alexi himself, half-jokingly, of course, or maybe not, and testimony at a Federal Corruption Trial that contradicts the embellishments Alexi previously told the press about all of this is, well . . .

Clear as mud.

I don't see the Democrats "moving on" from the mud slinging. Clue us in when they do.

As always, thanks, Lou, for so rightly stating the facts as they exist. Alexi is so transparent he's like glass. He's the "johnny" come lately to the issues he now claims he has always championed. NOT. You've made the points clearly and in a concise manner, Lou. Now that Gill has folded her already crumbling tent and has taken to full time rocking in that chair with her cat on her lap, I'm guessing Team America's Blog will be home to all the blogging one could ever hope to read. Time for Xanax.

Louis,

From the Sierra Club's Jack Darin on why they would not be endorsing Mark Kirk:

"another case of Mark Kirk exaggerating his resume... He took a boat trip and held a press conference, but I think for him to say he stopped BP is clearly wrong. Unfortunately, Indiana went ahead gave BP the pollution permit for the pollution we were all so upset about, and still are. So BP in fact has not been stopped."

Taking a boat ride with Conservadem Dan "Little Lip" Lipinski may be "doing something" to you but to the rest of us we see right through the PR stunt.

Then again, you apparently have a lot of mud in your eyes.

Just because you choose to remain ignorant of facts in favor of your conservative fantasy world doesn't mean the rest of us need to live in your la-la-land too.

SERIOUSLY, Louis.

Do you know what "desensitized" means? How long have you been paying close attention to politics in Illinois--at the State level?

A comparison like that doesn't even raise eyebrows at the City level for chrissake.

Not with posts like this.

Excuse me. That should be "Independent" version of the Rod & Patti show.

TA, are you going to post Giannoulias' new video in resposne to these--or is that too much for your "sensitive" readers to handle?

No "Morning Joe" then either?

If there has to be a "silver lining" this might qualify as one of the best "Independent" campaigns the Republicans have ever had.
