Kirk Campaign Releases New Web Video: “Knew Then”

From the Kirk for Senate Campaign:

Kirk Campaign Releases New Web Video: “Knew Then”

Alexi Giannoulias: “If I knew now, what I knew then, we probably wouldn’t have approved those loans.” – Fox Illinois, 2/8/10

Northbrook, Ill.– The Kirk for Senate campaign today released a new web video highlighting Alexi Giannoulias’ tired excuses with regard to Broadway Bank loans to convicted felons and mobsters.

“Knew Then” plays off a Giannoulias statement from earlier this year in which he said, “If I knew now, what I knew then, we probably wouldn’t have approved those loans.”

Last week, the Chicago Sun-Times revealed Broadway Bank loaned nearly $23 million to Tony Rezko and Nadhmi Auchi in 2006 when Alexi Giannoulias claimed to be vice president and senior loan officer. Giannoulias now claims he left the bank months before even though he told the Windy City Times in March 2006, “I’m senior loan officer and vice president, so I oversee a $600 million loan department.”

“Illinois voters are tired of Alexi Giannoulias’ excuses about loans he made to mobsters, thugs and criminals,” Kirk spokesperson Kirsten Kukowski said. “Alexi Giannoulias misled the voters to get elected State Treasurer and continues to mislead voters as he runs for the U.S. Senate. After Rod Blagojevich and Tony Rezko, we won’t be fooled again.”

The message isn't bad, but I think this is far too long and repetitive. Yes it could be argued that each piece is another component, but they should have found a quicker method to depict them and cut this in half. The lay person will not be hanging on each statement and recognizing that each one is a different allegation.

Clearly a mad for web piece, but I still think the Soprano's piece is more effective and could have been updated.

Oh and TA, no report on the new Rasmussen Poll with MK and AG at a 40 - 40 deadlock. That plus Kirk's financial dominance is some pretty terrific news for Kirk.

I know, AB, but I have a day job too, so we'll discuss that soon, when I get a chance to update.

I'll be more excited when the MSK numbers show a more comfortable lead, but that will take some additional time to let the "mob banker" refrain set in with the electorate.

Nice mug shot, BTW. ;-)

Best part about that mug shot? I only have one chin for that one! It's my favorite.

Nit-picky, long an reptitive, and the music's "obsessive" again and god awful. Very out of touch with what people feel and like.

Good reflection of Kirk's campaign. No negative impact on Giannoulias whatsoever.

They're trying very hard to lose this race, aren't they?

Now we just have to figure out why.

the lay person does not watch the ad. How does the lay person see the ad if it does not run on tv and the lay person does not read this blog? The majority of people that see it are likely campaign interns and activists. There were a few other things in chicago today going on so I doubt it will get much media coverage.

The senate race at this point will be decided in washington with how much the white house wants to go out on a limb to save alexi, not the congressman's warchest. if they (the gaspard/rahm operation) go all out, the congressman is finished. If they muddle it through he has a fighting chance. they can easily make up the difference in alexi and the congressman's fundraising with either dscc/dnc expenditures or by sending half the cabinet here. Don't discount the impact that visits by michelle and barack will have.

You still don't get it, do you--or are you playing make believe?

How is information disseminated today? Door to door? And is it always what's SAID on blogs--or can silence be even louder? And from where do you think the "media" get their information that THEY eventually pass on?

Quiet press days? Other events taking precedence TODAY? What about archives? You should have learned AT LEAST that lesson by now.

Like I said, playing make believe? Your still *wondering* what Obama's going to do and whether THEY are going to mess this up, is a strong tell.

How's that "hopey changey" working out for YOU?

Close your eyes, kick your heels, and it'll ALLLLLL go away, right?

Hive-fives all around the office today on a great "internet ad"?

Feeling good about it, or counting your blessings silently that few have picked it up so far because it's been buried by other news today?

Thinking the ad itself reveals nothing? Hoping it doesn't add a few more pieces to the "master piece" that's being assembled by Giannoulias' campaign?

Do you REALLY believe that this "team" is even close to being in Axelrod's league?

the media hasn't covered this race at all and will only cover it if and when the blago thing ends. when they do, the coverage will be about 3 things-the obama administration involvement in the race, mark's military record and alexi's bank. They've proven over the last 14 months they are too stupid to do any issues or anything more.

they have no appetite for anything else right now. the suntimes reporter for this race, pallasch has been living at the blago courthouse and can't write 2 stories at once. I think it helps mark because the policy debate is basically framed as alexi/obama against mark/gop and that's not good terrain for our next senator.
