Former VEEP Dan Quayle to Endorse Businessman Bob Dold in IL-10

I assumed this would happen ever since I got an invitation in the mail for a suburban fundraiser for GOP congressional candidate Bob Dold that featured former Indiana congressman/senator and Vice President under George H. W. Bush, Dan Quayle, but now it's official that Quayle will be endorsing Dold this Thursday at the event. The event will be at Allgauer's Restaurant in Northbrook, and there will be a press conference beginning at 12:15 p.m.

My favorite Dan Quayle quote: "People that are really very weird can get into sensitive positions and have a tremendous impact on history."

Bob,

At forums, I have gotten to know you and respect you, but, don't push this endorsement out there. Use him for $$$ and thats it. You cannot go head to head with the endorsments of some other candidates.

If for some reason your wide receiver catches your hail mary pass and you win this thing, this endorsement will be lights out in the General.

Sincerely,

The Quayle endorsement will be golden in a general compared to the ones from Don Castella and Penny Pullen.
Dold is officially "outside the mainstream"

Anonymous said...

Certainly not an endorsement a 10th Congressional candidate should seek - better than Castella (but then any endorsement is).

I agree Dold is now officially "outside the mainstream".....

Anonymous said...

This hurts Dold. How can you be so politically tone deaf? The endorsement of Quayle (a fine man who I personally agree with on many issues) is about as helpful up here on the north shore as an endorsement by Trent Lott, Donald Rumsfeld or Dick Cheney. All good conservatives but geez....I don't see where this helps Dold up here.

As I have said all along Dolt has a campaign that would be great for...1986.

Coulson has a campaign that would be great for the democrat party.

Whatever, Dan Quayle is not the best national figure, granted, but how many primary candidates get a national level political figure to come to town?

Anonymous said...

The only reason he could secure Quayle is because he used to be his advance man. Not that I would be proud of that.

This is one of those endorsements that screams "Run away!"

Anonymous said...

I wouldnt exactly call Dan Quayle a national level political figure. Not in this millenium.

Wow, with that Green flier that hit my mailbox, it seems that the Green campaign thinks their guy has a pretty face. I do love the stash.

Anonymous said...

I got that flier too. Does Dold really support the bailouts? I see Green left Arie off of his flier. Im voting for Arie.

Anonymous said...

Maybe the only thing worse than a Quayle endorsement would be a Tony Peraica endorsement...
Wait, what?

Anonymous said...

You mean the Peracia who got 74% of the vote in the 10th District Cook County in 2006? The guy who has been the only person in Chicago actually fighting Democrats the last decade? The guy who fights to lower taxes in Cook County, even while Beth Coulson is voting to raise them?

I don't think it is such a bad endorsement. I am sure Coulson's democrat campaign manager doesn't like the endorsement, but Peracia has a 67% favorability rating in Cook County 10th Cook County, so it should help somewhat.

Anonymous said...

Hmmm, just saw Quayle on Foxnewx-- Cavuto show.
You don't hear from the guy in a decade, then you hear about him twice in one day..go figure.

Anonymous said...

Talk to the folks that know Peraica - he's a thug, a bully, and an embarrassment to the GOP.

Quayle is a much better endorsement - at least Quayle had ethics...

Anonymous said...

I would say that Coulson's votes to raise your sales taxes are a bigger embarrassment to the GOP than Peracia's fighting with the Chicago machine. So-called Republicans like Coulson who go to bed with the Democrats, don't like Peracia because he calls them out. Ask yourself, as our country and state fall into economic abyss, who do you want, Coulson and her campaign fliers featuring Obama and Blago, or Percaia and his battle scars fighting Storger's Cook County Sales Tax?

Our Govenor's debate is tonight for our team. I am still undecided. I thought I was a proft guy, but I don't know. If any of you have guidance-I will not be voting for McKenna, I need a clue here so why are you voting for them and why should I? For the record I am virulently anti-anything to do with springfield republicans and status quo, not an extremist.

FOKLEAS, actually you are for Springfield since you are wasting your vote on the anti-Coulson candidate who cannot win i.e. voting for Coulson. Sleep well.

Conservative Brand is a great blog. It is not the quality of team america, but it is solid. My only complaint is that it hurts my eyes to have to read it. The font is super small, it is white on black. Not very good.

I'm still looking for someone to give me a candidate for governor to support.

for the record I added pup and alexi to the title to reflect coming battles.

Ah, Dan Quayl...the guy who came in 8th in the Ames Straw Poll for the 2000 election. Who came in 7th? Oh, that's right...

FOKLAES,

You are losing your credibility when you support Eva Sorock's blog. She is the female version of Andy Martin - and continuously attacks your boy Mark Kirk.

Anyone who Eva Sorock supports should and must LOSE in the primary because she gives Republicans a bad name.

By the way, if Beth were such a bad Republican, why didn't any Republican challenge her? And further why did Madigan spend over $500,000 in 6 of her 7 elections trying to defeat her?

It's either Congresswoman Coulson or Congressman Dan Seals - Your choice - mine is Coulson!

Anonymous said...

Anon,

I don't know her personally but I think we need moderate leaders like team america and conservatives like her if we are going to come back. We aren't in a position to be choosy right now.

Also thank you for noting that I had some credibility.

Democrats try to defeat all kinds of republicans. Remember they wiped out the connecticut delegation of republicans, and have basically wiped out the entire moderate wing of the gop. They want their people in even though most of them vote like coulson.

For me the issue with coulson has always been that our party needs new blood and this even leads me to get frustrated with Mark some times who wastes too much time looking back. We need a new sense of purpose and she clearly does not have that.

People team and sorock are incubators of discussion that lets face it are the future of the party, grassroots entreprenuers coming in and saying we can do better bringing the GOP together along with some democrats in search of a little sanity. THey are giving us a pulse, that's what we need.

Is Eva Sorock still alive? My mom couldn't stand to be around her; she would say to me, "there's something wrong with people who never have a kind word to say about anyone - you stay away from her." She always freaked me out as a kid with that angry look in her eyes.

I think it's funny she's still around - so she's supporting Dold? Poor guy, first Quayle now Evil Sorock!

FOKLAES,

OK - i agree new faces for the party is great - can we get those folks to start working in the Party 6 months before the filing deadline for US Congress, instead of 6 weeks or 6 days.

In 2012 you know we are facing redistricting, and that means the 8th and 10th will be merged. Folks interested in the 2012 elections should start engaging in the Party NOW and helping folks like Coulson and Kirk who can lead us to victory this year.

As Republicans, we have a responsibility to select the candidates most likely to win in November - we can't afford to lose our patience, compromise our knowledge or act irrationally. There is too much at stake.

You and I probably agree with Kirk and Coulson 80% of the time and with Sexi Lexi and Seals 5% of the time. So let's work together to win a U.S. Senate seat and keep the 10th congressional in the GOP column.

Spot on! Enough of the bickering and bashing. The "real" election is in November. Pick the team that prevails in the battles and the wars. Not just the battles.

I for one will sit out the "real" election if Coulson is the nominee.

Too bad if it seems like "bickering" to advocate for an actual conservative.

=== I for one will sit out the "real" election if Coulson is the nominee.===

Hey Anon 9:17 - are you planning to sit out because you really think Hamos/Seals is the better candidate? Or will you do it to spite the Coulson supporters that didn't pick your guy?

I can understand picking a candidate you prefer in the primary (assuming that such a candidate has a decent chance to win in the general) but deciding not to vote in the general for the GOP nominee (which essentially aids the other side) just because your preferred candidate doesn't win the primary isn't being a team player or a loyal party member.

What would you say if every Coulson supporter refused to support the GOP winner when it comes time for the general election if she doesn't happen to win the primary? Or is that OK because TRUE conservatives don't need any help from RINO Coulson supporters? Do you really think there are enough 'true conservatives' (whatever that means, anyway) to win the general without moderate Republicans and probably some independents too? How you going to recruit them with a 'my way or the highway' attitude? Do you think that as soon as they hear your message they will instantly convert to your point of view? Good luck with that.

For my money, regardless of which candidate wins the GOP nomination (although I guess I'd reserve judgment on Hamann), they will have my support in the general. Too bad your spite seems to have gotten the better of you and you can't say the same.

Anonymous said...

No one talks about Hamos anymore. What happened?

Anonymous said...

I am a Coulson supporter purely because she is the ONLY on who can win in the general.

We all know that.

Sticking by conservative values is great. Sticking by values is great in general, especially in Illinois we lack them tremendously.

TA said it best. The question comes down to whether or not you want to win in November? Yes or no?

I early voted for Coulson, am displaying a yard sign (along with my Kirk for Senate one), donated to both campaigns, and told all my friends to do the same.

By the way...who is the conservative in the race you are all speaking of? (I bet you everyone has a different answer...hint, there isn't one)

Oh and another thought...who the heck knows off the top of their head what Perica's favorables are in Cook County? Dold Campaign...go out and get some votes instead of posting your poll you conducted on Perica to see if he was any good up here.

FAVORITE Quayle quotes:

1) I love California, I grew up in Phoenix.

2) I can't be held accountable for the things I have done, but I can be accountable for the things I will do.

I've met Bob Dold on a number of occasions and he strikes me as an honest man that shares my sense of disgust for the political trends in Washington -toward a more centralized and directed economy and civil society.

I've Met Beth Coulson as well, and she seemed like a decent and reasonable person. That said, I could never vote for any politician that co-branded her campaign with a picture of Pres. Obama. I'd rather go all in on a candidate that will have to battle til November than put my stock behind a candidate that will compromise their so-called principles just to live and fight another day.

Anonymous said...

Anon 10:49, while I appreciate your sentiments about Coulson, I have to correct you about one of those Quayle quotes.

The actual quote is, "I love California, I grew up in Phoenix, and my family used to drive to California all the time."

Somehow, the media started repeating the truncated version of the quote without ever checking out the original quote.

Did Kirk skip the republican senatorial debate? Was it last evening? How did the other candidates do? Did anyone watch it?

Anonymous said...

Coulson is not the only candidate who can win in the general. I think that the conservatives will not vote for her. To win in the 10th, Republicans need to overperform in Palatine and Wheeling. Ms. Coulson will not attract these voters. Her voting record is way more liberal than Kirk's ever was and she cannot talk military creds in the west like Kirk alwyas did. Coulson is uncharaismatic and does not work as hard as Kirk.

Coulsoun supporters apparently think that the conservatives will just fall into line because she is a Republican, I am not convinced.

The Phoenix quote reminds me of the Palin quote of "I can see Alaska from my window" which was actually said not by Palin but on Saturday Night Live by the comedian impersonating her.

If we start VP Biden quotes here, poor TA's blog site will be overloaded!

In 2000 we were told first that corinne wood could win because she was a woman. Oops. Then we were told shawn margaret donnelly, same deal. Then we were told andy hochberg, because he was a member of the tribe. Then we did what we thought was best and went with some guy named Kirk. Game over.

You do what you think is best then you work your heart out to make it happen.

I am also likely to vote now for Proft for governor. I'd love to see our party and springfield turned upside down.
